Technology for Teaching and Learning 1
Let’s now EXPLORE your learning abilities:

Activity 1.
Express it! This activity will allow you to express your thoughts regarding the teacher as a
Technology. Write at least 3 paragraphs to illustrate that a teacher is a highly promising technology.
Support your answering by presenting classroom scenarios (15 pts.)
As we engross to this 21 st century we are hastily entering the era of the great technology that is rapidly
developing every second of time. We teachers need to pay attention at these fast-growing technologies
that are being used now-a-days. For it may be the gadget or weapon we will use to fathom our students to
learn in our institutions or in our school. Teachers are indeed embracing the role of the technology for it
plays a supporting role for the efficiency of their works.

Technologies are part of our daily life; contributory to one's needs and play an important role most
especially for innovations of the new aspect of instructional materials in the teaching-learning process. It
makes teaching easier and more engaging. It plays a supporting role in the teaching-learning process for
both teachers and learners in the school.
However, there are some unpleasant use of technology specially when we are taking it for granted. We
may abuse using and use it on inappropriate things. Like; posting fake news. So, I would like to use it in a
moderate way for it may be use in education. As a soon to be teacher, technology helps us in many
aspects especially that we are facing a pandemic. It helped us a lot to learn and communicate with our
teachers and fellow students while we are still at home.

Activity 2
This activity will help you realize how teachers become the technology themselves. As a technology,
what do teachers use to facilitate learning? Classify them as verbal, sound and manipulative. Refer to
page13.

Let‟s APPLY what you‟ve learned:

Activity 1. You have learned that technology can be gadgets or tools that facilitate certain tasks or work.
Using this knowledge, fill in the following chart with 5 tools or gadgets used in the following:

Activity 2. Interview two of your classmates. (You may text, chat, teleconference, call each other or any
technique). Ask and find out from them the different technologies they used in studying and learning
lessons or topics and how it affects the efficacy of learning. Use the template given below for your
answer.

Classmate 1
I had been chatting with my former classmate at University of the Cordilleras, she told me that they were
using an iPad for their notes for it is much easier for them to take notes and take a picture what they were
tackling during their class hours. It is very different from us because they are using an expensive gadget to
use inside their nursing laboratories and during their shifts inside the hospital they are designated into.

It helps them a lot on their studies especially on taking notes during their classes. It made their work easier
to do and done at ahead of the time they should be done. But the shocking is that they are using high end
technologies that some average Filipino family won’t even afford to buy. But for the sake of their study they
are willing to buy just for them to study informal.

Classmate 2
This other formal classmate of mine is now studying at Saint Louis University at Baguio City. He told me
that every day they are required to bring their laptops inside their classroom because it the most efficient
way to do their research. It also helps them to do their research in no time because he told me that they are
not going to meet on places to places because they can just brainstorm or do it together as a group inside
their classrooms.

Actually, it is to very different to our school because we also bring our laptop at school just for the means of
our researches and also for doing or homework or even doing our modules.

Activity 3. Identify what domain of technology is described

below: a. Management this domain often includes needs
assessment.
b. Design this domain includes preparing instructional materials.
c. Utilization this domain includes writing objectives in measurable terms.
d. Development this domain deliver instruction in settings for which it was designed.
e. Evaluation this domain includes summative and formative assessments.

This time, Let’s ASSESS your understanding.

1. Based on your own understanding, give three statements to describe the following concepts
related to technology.
a. Educational technology as the selection, development, management and use of appropriate
technological processes and resources.
Divine Word College of Bangued

School of Arts, Sciences and Education

 It should be used in an appropriate thing and not to be abused on using it.

 Technology should not be the backbone of the development of the learners,
knowledge should be.
 Technology does it part on making things easier on making school works and
effective teaching strategies.

b. Educational Technology as the choice of appropriate principles in the preparation and

utilization of conventional and non-conventional technology tools as well as traditional and
alternative teaching strategies
 Educational technology is a field of study that investigates the process of analyzing,
designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating the instructional environment
and learning materials in order to improve teaching and learning.
 It is important to keep in mind that the purpose of educational technology is to improve
education.
 We must define the goals and needs of education first and then we use all our
knowledge, including technology, to design the most effective learning environment for
our students.

2. Make 2 metaphors applicable to teaching-learning process (something educational) on the use of

technological tools/gadgets. 20 pts.
 Gadget is a life saver.
 Technology is inevitable.

3. What do you think are the barriers in the development of ICT in the Philippines educational system? 5
pts.
The poor funding of the expansion and speed of the internet connection here in our country. We
are also enlisted as one of the slowest internet speeds in South East Asia. The poor funding and
development there were also some areas that were not or cannot be reached by any signal for
mobile phone or even internet.

For example, in my hometown in Tineg there are still many places or barangays that does yet
reached by the electric cooperatives. Due to lack of funding these people are still using fire woods
as light or even torch and by the use of two-way radio they can communicate neighbor to
neighbor. Internet has not yet been introduced most of the places in our hometown

4. What can you understand on this idea “technology should not drive the education, rather,
educational goals and objectives, and careful economics must drive technology use”. 10 pts.
 Technology use must be carefully considered in light of educational aims and objectives as
well as prudent economics, not the other way around. The Philippines will be able to
adequately and fairly meet the people's basic needs and assist them in addressing the new
opportunities and challenges brought on by a more globalized economy.
 The primary objective of this technology is to influence the teaching and learning process. It is
a social learning network that promotes sharing and cooperation in the classroom.

Surprisingly, we find it really helpful, especially when giving out assignments, planning
summative assessments, and gauging student progress.

Lesson 2: ICT Policies and Safety Issues in Teaching and Learning

THINGS TO DO:
Try to download the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of RA 10844 and try to
understand. As a future teacher, it is a must that you have a printed copy of the said IRR.

Evaluation Activities:
1. With the different provisions of the RA 10844, select 1 and explain how it will help you in the
application of ICT in the classroom as a/an
a. education student; and
As an education student I would like to emphasize, however, that despite the benefits the
act may provide for the public, we must also exercise extreme caution, be vigilant, and pay
close attention to any potential drawbacks. I think that hackers might be able to access
crucial files and documents from various government departments. Technology is
undoubtedly helpful in meeting today's demands and needs, but I hope that some people
won't misuse it by using it for their own personal and political gain.

2. What should you do to become a responsible social media user?

To be a responsible social media user, you should know the purpose of why are you using this
platform. Always know what you are posting. Does it provide positive impact? Is it beneficial to
your audience? Consider these questions. More than that, always check information whether
they are reliable or not. Responsible social media user also includes critical thinking skills. It’s
not just about posting or sharing what you want but it’s being able to filter credible, authentic
and reliable information.
