B. Motivation/Energizer (10 Minutes)

Are you all ready for our activity for
today?
Yes sir! (Everyone in the class)
Okay, but first I would like you all to find
a partner because this activity will be in
pairs. But, before you proceed.

Can all of you read the guidelines or

rules when you are going to work in pairs
that is pasted on the board class. The class will read the guidelines and rule
that is pasted on the board.

After reading the guideline and rules the

students will now proceed to find their
respective pairs.
(The teacher will present using a
tarpapel, the activity guide)

Okay class, can you all see and read

what is presented on the tarp? Yes sir

If that so? Then you may now proceed to

do the step number 1. (The students will now do what is tasked

that is presented on the tarp)
Activity:
Okay can you all read the first one.
The students will now read the first item
and proceed on doing it after. (same goes
with the other items.)
1. Have the students locate their own
pulse by placing their fingers on their
wrist. Instruct students that if they have
felt a throb then they have located their
pulse. Instruct not to use their thumb
then rationalize why.

2. Next allow the other partner to locate

their partner’s pulse and vice versa.

3. Instruct on how to record their own pulse

rate and their partner’s pulse rate.

4. After recording their pulse rate at rest,

allow students to do jogging in place
then record their pulse rate after
exercise.
5. The teacher will then ask at least 2
students to present their corresponding
pulse rate on each activity that the
teacher asked them to do.

Teacher’s Questions:
What is your pulse rate while at rest and
after exercise? Sir! (A member from the paired group)

Yes Ms/Mr. Based on my calculations sir, my pulse

rate while I am at rest is slower, while
after the exercise that we did had made
my pulse beat faster.

4|Page TECHNOLOGY FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING 1

Precisely, our pulse is slower when we

are at rest whilst after we do exercise

Were you’re at rest pulse rate the same

as your partners?

Yes Mr. Madrigal? No sir.

That’s right Mr. Madrigal. A normal

resting heart rate should be between 60
to 100 beats per minute, but it can vary
from minute to minute. Your age and
general health can also affect your
pulse rate, so it's important to
remember that a 'normal' pulse can
vary from person to person.

Should everyone have the same pulse Sir!

rate? Why or Why Not?
No sir, because as what you have said. It

may vary from person’s age, health
condition and from minute to minute.

Excelent answer Ms. Hermoine

Here is our last question before we Sir!

proceed to our new lesson. How did
exercising affect your pulse rate?

Yes, Ms. Lilia? Because when we run we use most of our

energy sir

Uhuh. Can you be more specific Ms. No response

Lilia?

Can anyone help Ms. Lilia?

No response
Okay I’ll just answer this one. When you
are exercising, your muscles need
extra oxygen some three times as
much as resting muscles. This need
means that your heart starts pumping
faster, which makes for a quicker
pulse.

I think everyone has a clue already what

would our next topic.

C. Introduction/Presentation

Okay class what can you see on the presented

poster in front? Heart sir

Aside from that what else? Its labels/parts sir

Correct, it is a labeled part of the heart?

Now can anyone tell me what is the function of

the heart in our body? Sir!

Yes Ms. Domogma? It is a muscle at the center of our chest

that is responsible for pumping blood
around our body.
Indeed Mr. Domogma

Does any of the class can still give another

function of our heart? Sir!

Yes, Mr. Aragon Sends oxygen and nutrients to all parts of

your body, and carries away unwanted
carbon dioxide and waste products.
Exactly, Mr. Aragon. I think we all know now the
function of the heart we can now proceed for our
discussion for today.
D. Discussion
Can anyone tell me what system of the body
we will be tackling for today’s lesson? Sir!

Yes, Mr. Alucard? The Cardiovascular System Sir

Precisely

6|Page TECHNOLOGY FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING 1

Divine Word College of Bangued

School of Arts, Sciences and Education

The Cardiovascular system is the organ

system that transports nutrients (digestive
products), gases, hormones, and other
materials to and from the body. It also
functions in fighting and helps stabilizes
body temperature and pH to maintain
homeostasis.
For it stabilizes and measure of how
Why heart stabilizes the pH in our body? acidic/basic water is, sir

Correct

The Cardiovascular system composed of the

heart, which is a muscular pumping organ;
the blood which is the circulating medium;
and a closed system of blood vessels the
arteries, veins, and capillaries.

The Heart is the muscular organ that pumps

blood to the different parts of the body. It is
located at the middle of the chest cavity with
its tip or apex slightly towards the left. Its
base lies just below the second ribs. The
heart is just big as one’s own clenched fist. A
sac known as the pericardium encloses it.

Why does the heart locate in the inner part For it protects the heart so it won’t get

like the brain, sir.

gathers food nutrients and delivers them
to every cell. Sir

Precisely

Because blood sends oxygen and

Why does the heart pumps blood though the nutrients to all parts of your body, and
various parts of our body? carries away unwanted carbon dioxide
and waste products, sir

Brilliant answer Mr. Alucard

Three layers of tissues from the walls of the

heart. The outer layer of the heart wall is the
epicardium, the middle layer is the
myocardium, and the inner layer is the
endocardium. The epicardium is the inner
part of the pericardium that is closely
adhered to the heart; the myocardium is the
muscular part that is composed of the
cardiac muscle tissue; and the endocardium
is the thin layer of tissue that lines the
muscles of the heart. Between the outer
pericardium and the epicardium is the
pericardial cavity that is filled with pericardial
fluid.
Epicardium, Myocardium and
Endocardium, sir.
What are the three-layer tissues from the
walls of the heart?

Precisely

The human heart is a four-chambered heart.

The interior of the heart is divided into four
chambers, namely right atrium, left atrium,
right ventricle and left ventricle. The muscle
called septum divides the heart into four
chambers. right atrium, left atrium, right ventricle and
left ventricle, Sir.
What were the 4 chambers of the heart
again Mr. Garcia?

That’s right, that you Mr. Garcia you may

now take a sit. Septum sir

What do you call that divides the heart into

8|Page TECHNOLOGY FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING 1

Divine Word College of Bangued

four chambers Ms. Bello?

Correct.

The atria are the receiving chambers of the

heart. These chambers are thin-walled. The
right atrium receives oxygen-poor blood from
the vena cava, a large vein while the left
atrium receives blood from the pulmonary
veins.

The two ventricles are the pumping

chambers that force blood out of the heart.
These chambers are thick-walled. The right
ventricle pumps oxygen-rich blood to all
parts of the body.

Valves are flaps of muscles that prevent

from back flowing. Two sets of valves- the
atrioventricular valves and the pulmonary
valves- work to ensure that blood will move
only one direction. These valves work to make sure that
there are no back flows and they will

Maridel Apuya?

Precisely

The four-chambered heart provides an

Why does human heart have 4 valves??
efficient solution by keeping oxygenated
and non-oxygenated blood separate.

Any other answer? What Ms. Lovely had

said is quite right but I need a better answer.
Thank you miss Lovely. Sir

The supply of oxygen to the body can

also be improved by increasing how often
the heart contracts.

Indeed, Thank you Mr. Loreto.

9|Page TECHNOLOGY FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING 1

The atrioventricular valves (also known as

the cuspid valves) are located between the
atria and ventricles. The semilunar valves
are located at the bases of the large vessels
leaving the ventricles.

The right atrioventricular valve is the

tricuspid valve; while the left atrioventricular
valve is the bicuspid or mitral valve. The
valve between the right ventricle and
pulmonary artery is the pulmonary semilunar
valve. The valve between the left and the
aorta is the aortic semilunar valve. Sir!

What was known as cuspid valves? The atrioventricular valves sir.

Yes, Ms. Gayyed?

Correct.

When the ventricles contract, the

atrioventricular valves are closed to prevent
blood from back flowing into the atria. When

10 | P a g e TECHNOLOGY FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING 1

Divine Word College of Bangued
Bangued, Abra

the ventricles relax, the semilunar valves

close to prevent blood form back flowing into
the ventricles.

The Aorta is the largest artery. It conveys

oxygen-rich blood pumped by the left
ventricle to all parts of the body.

Pulmonary Circulation, in this circuit, blood

coming from all parts of the body is
oxygenated. Oxygen-poor blood returns to
the right atrium of the heart by way of the
superior and inferior vena cava. From the
right atrium, the heart pushes the blood into
the right ventricle. Contraction of the right
ventricle forces blood to the lungs by way of
the pulmonary artery. The pulmonary artery
splits into two carrying the blood to both
lungs.

Systematic Circulation, in this circuit, the

oxygen-rich blood from the lungs will be
distributed to the different parts of the body
and then at the same time collect from them
the impure blood with the help of the veins.

E. Enhancement Activity
Let’s have a game.

and everything may come to an end,
that’s why we need to value things we
have now so that we may not regret if
we lose them. As a human being our life
is just like transmission and distribution
of blood, we cannot live just by
ourselves, we need a good and healthy
habit for us to take care of our heart and
