5. Sit properly.

A. Reviewing previews Before we proceed to our next lesson, let us first have a short
lesson review.

Are you all ready children?

Yes teacher!

1. How does light travel?

Light travels straight

2. How does the light travel to transparent materials?

The light can pass through transparent
3. How does the light travel to translucent materials? material.

Some light can pass through translucent

materials.
4. How does the light travels to opaque materials?
No light can pass through opaque materials
Very good! All of your answers are correct. It seems like you really
understand our previous lesson. Now let us move on to our next
lesson.

The spoon looked bent when submerged in a glass of water?

4. Why do you think light is important to our daily living? light called refraction.

The light helps provide energy to the Earth,

through electromagnetic energy. It also
helps animals see in the day and the night
(through the moon). This light also helps
plants grow, and since plants consume

E. Continuation of Light is a form of energy. We use energy in our daily activities.

discussion of new Light plays a vital role in our everyday lives. It guides us
concepts leading to throughout the day. It helps us to see and enjoy the beauty
formative assessment around us.
The Sun is the most important source of light on earth. The sun’s
ultraviolet rays help the human body to make vitamin D, which is
important for our bones, blood cells, and immune system. Plants
get energy from sunlight. Without sunlight, a plant would not be
able to produce the energy it needs to grow. The Sun’s energy
also helps the animals get vitamin D by eating plants.
Reflection is when light bounces off an object. When this
happens, it allows us to see the object. A picture of the object is
sent to the brain from the eye. Our brain helps us understand
what we see.
Example

➢ Refraction is the bending of light as it travels from one type of

material to another from air to water.
➢ Light waves also pass through certain materials like a
magnifying glass or different kinds of lenses and refract. This
makes the objects seen in the magnifying glass looked different.

Example:

 As you look at the pencil, the top part of the pencil came
directly to your eye light rays from the bottom part
passed first through the surface between the water and
the air.
➢ When part of the pencil was submerged in the water, it
looked bent. The pencil appears bent due to the property of light
called refraction. It happens because
the light ray slows down and changes direction as it passes into
the water.

 General Guidelines

1. The teacher will then repeat the mechanics

since this is a group activity

2. Each group will be given 5 minutes to do

their specific task.
3. When they are done with each task the
groups will now present their output in front
of the class.
4. The teacher will then congratulate the efforts
done by everyone.
H. Making The teacher will allow the students to share short reflections on
generalization and the appreciation of the importance of properties and
abstraction of the lesson characteristics of light.

1. What are the properties and characteristics of light?

The properties and characteristics of light
are the Reflection and Refraction.

2. What happens to light as it strikes an object?

It will reflect when the object is transparent

and It will bounce back in the direction came
from.
3. How does light help us see things? Can you give some
reasons?
Light enables us to see things through
reflection and refraction. Lights reflecting off
objects enters our eyes and light refracts as
it enters our eyes focusing images.

4. Why do you think light is important to our daily living?

light helps provide energy to the Earth,
through electromagnetic energy. It also
helps animals see in the day and the night

I. Evaluating Learning Directions: Identify and explain the different properties of light. Read .
each sentence carefully. Encircle the letter of the correct
Application answer.

1. ___ is a form of energy that we can see with our eyes.

a. image b. reflection
c. light d. picture

2. What will happen if light waves bounce off the surface of an

object?
a. absorption b. reflection
c. refraction d. transportation

3. An image can be seen on a shiny surface when light is _____.

a. refracted b. reflected
c. absorbed c. dissolve

4. What do you call the bending of light as it passes through

different media.
a. diffraction b. diffusion
c. reflection d. refraction
5. Why do you think objects reflect light in a shiny metals and
mirrors?
a. because of the smoothness and flatness of their surfaces
b. the density of the material
c. the color of the object
d. because of its surface of an object is shiny
J. Additional activities for Assignment
application or remediation. Go around your house and list down the materials that refract
(bend) light.
