class, to lead us in prayer. Let us bow our head, close our eyes and feel the
presence of our Lord. Amen!

G Thank you!

II. Greetings

Good afternoon, Grade 4! Good afternoon, Teacher!

You may now take your seats.

How are you today? We are doing great Teacher!

today?

E That is great! Since everyone is present today, give (The class will clap 10 times)
yourselves 10 claps.

(The class will clap 10 times)

What are the things that you need to do when the 1. Sit properly.
class finally started? 2. Listen carefully.
3. Raise your right hand if you want to
answer.
4. Participate in class activity.
Before we move on to our next lesson, let us have
a review first of what we have discussed last time.

Can someone from the class can give some

examples of how does sound travel?
Possible answer:
Sounds can travel through solid, liquid, and gases
Very Good!
Now, get your spelling notebook or a piece of
paper, at the same time prepare yourselves as we
will having a short spelling bee. Number your
paper from 1 to 5. After that, we will check your
papers.
Yes Teacher!
Is that clear grade 4?

Words for today:

3. Mirror
3. Mirror
4. Transparent 4. Transparent
5. Glass 5. Glass

Good job everyone. I am so glad with your

impressive answers!

B. Establishing a purpose
for the lesson This time we will watch a short video that will help
you to fully understand our topic for today.

(Setting of standards in watching a video)

Video presentation

So, what are the things you need to do when

watching a video?
1. Zip our mouth and
pay attention.

2. Jot down of important details.

I’m hoping that you’ll do those things.

Is that clear?
Yes Teacher!

C. Presenting
examples/instances of Did you enjoyed the short video that I prepared? Yes Teacher!
the new lesson
So based on the video, what do you think is our
lesson for today? Or do you have any idea? Teacher it’s all about properties of light.

That’s correct!

As you can see I have here a mirror and a picture

cutout of a teddy bear. Now I want you to notice the
image on the mirror.

What did you see? We saw a full picture of a teddy bear.

Correct!
As light travels in a straight line, it sometimes
bounces back into the direction of the source and we
call this as reflection. Moreover, water, windows,
shiny metal, and mirrors are just some of the many
objects that reflect light.

Look at the illustrations. What do you think will

happen when you throw the ball at the wall in a
straight line in front of you? The ball will bounce off the board back in a
straight line to you.

Correct!
What do you think will happen when you throw the
ball at the wall at an angle? The ball will bounce away from the board at the
same angle but in the opposite direction.
Excellent!
Light travels in the same manner. The way light
bounces back are very much similar to the way a
ball bounces back on a hard smooth surface. When
you throw a ball straight down, it will bounce
straight back at you. When you throw a ball at an
angle, it will bounce off at the same angle away
from you. Which simply means that light reflects
the same way as a mirror. Light bounces off at the
same angle that it struck the mirror.

Is that clear?
Yes teacher!

Now, look at here. As you can see I have here a

glass, water and a pencil.
When the water is being added, do you think the
appearance of the pencil change? Yes teacher!

Correct!
This appearance shows that light is bent as it passes
from air to the glass of water. Light bends as it
passes from some objects when viewed at an angle.
The light travels slower in the water and the glass
than in the air. As the light changes speed, it changes
direction resulting in what appears to be the bending
of light. This bending of light is called refraction.

However, when you took it out of the glass, it was

straight. On the other hand, when you raised the
pencil and touched it, it was not been.

Do you understand class? Yes teacher!

D. Discussing new concepts
and practicing new skills #1 (Teacher Rea, will provide the materials)

At this juncture, let’s have a group activity. (Learners will follow the teacher’s
(The teacher will divide the class into 3 groups.) instructions)

On the other hand, what are the things you need to Possible answer:
do when there’s a group activity? Be cooperative, listen to the teacher and follow the
instructions.

Directions: Identify the pictures of situations

whether the light is being reflected or refracted. Put
the pictures in the box A if it is reflected and also put
the pictures in box B if it is refracted. And after that,
we will be having a classroom discussion.

Class, do you understand?

R
For group 2: Do a short dialogue about the

And for group 3: Draw a solid object that shows

reflection and refraction.

On the other hand, after a few minutes you will

present that in front of the class and here’s the
rubrics.

G. Finding practical
applications of concepts and Have you experienced a brownout in your
skills in daily living community? Yes teacher!
How does it feel?
Possible answer/s:
1. Scary
2. Gloomy
3. We felt like a blind because we can’t
see anything.
That’s right!
Indeed, that light is responsible for all life where it
allows us to see the surrounding world by
distinguishing details, individual colors, movement,
and even brightness. On the other hand, it has a very
big impact on a human in terms of the physiology
and psyche. It has also a vital function in relation to
environment and biological processes that occur in
our body.

Do you understand class? Yes Teacher!

Alright!
Now, give yourselves a rain clap. (The learners will follow the teacher’s instruction)

H. Making generalizations
and abstractions about the Grade 4, what have you learned today? We learned about the properties of light.
lesson
Can you give the properties light? Ma’am the properties of light are reflection and
refraction.

Very Good!

Class do you have any questions or clarification? (Non – verbatim but the teacher already knows
the answer of the learners)

I guess no more questions and clarification, now

prepare yourselves for a short quiz.

(The teacher will distribute the quiz to the learners) (Learners will follow the teacher’s
instructions)
