OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. define what simple and thought-provoking questions are;
b. ask precise and appropriate questions on an issue; and
c. raise sensible, challenging, and thought-provoking questions.

Questions)

Strips of Paper, Pictures, PowerPoint Presentation, Laptop, and Chalkboard.

PROCEDURE

A. Preliminary activities:
Begin with classroom routine:

a. Prayer
b. Greetings
c. Checking of attendance
d. Review of the previous lesson
The teacher will review the previous lesson by asking the students to give
any of the wh-questions.

B. Lesson Proper
A. AWARENESS/MOTIVATION
The teacher will paste two pictures and call some students to describe what they
have noticed in the pictures presented.

These are the pictures:

B. ACTIVITY
The teacher will group the students into two groups. Each group will be given
scrambled letters to arrange and form the correct word/s. They will then be asked
to paste the word next to the pictures presented on the board.

The words are: BASIC AND COMPLEX

C. ANALYSIS
The teacher will ask the students relevant questions about the activity such as
their observations and prior ideas about what these words and pictures are.

The teacher will ask the students to guess what today’s topic is based on the
performed activity.

The teacher will introduce the topic “SIMPLE AND THOUGHT- PROVOKING
QUESTIONS”.

Simple questions are questions that are plainly stated and do not require active
participation. They are also easily understood and not complicated or complex.

The teacher will then provide examples of simple questions and what are the
common wh-questions used to ask.

The teacher will ask some students to give examples of simple questions.

Thought-provoking questions are questions that stir or cause a person to think


introspectively about matters, topics, or subjects which were not previously
pondered about.
These questions are asked when you want to spark a fascinating discussion about
heavy topics.

The teacher will then provide examples of thought-provoking questions and what
are the common wh-questions used to ask.

The teacher will ask some students to give examples of thought-provoking


questions.

D. ABSTRACTION
The teacher will ask relevant questions to generalize the lesson and ask questions
about the differences between the two types of questions.

E. APPLICATION
The teacher will let the students work with their group again. Each group should
choose its leader. The leader will then be asked to pick a piece of paper from the
provided by the teacher.

The teacher will then post short passages on the board and then let the other
group formulate 2 simple questions and 1 thought-provoking question about the
passage assigned by the other group and should be answered by the other. The
groups will be graded based on the appropriateness of their questions and the
accuracy of their answers.
IV. EVALUATION
The teacher will post an activity on the board letting the students identify if those
questions are simple or thought-provoking.

V. ASSIGNMENT
The teacher will provide a printed article and let the students formulate 2 simple
and 2 thought-provoking questions.
