A. Preparation and
Settling In Have the learners perform the dance exercise.

a. Introduction:
Say: Great morning dear pupils! Welcome to
our Fri-date! It’s another day for us to sit down,
relax and have fun reading. Areyou ready?

Alright! I will allow you this time to go to your


favorite spot in the classroom where you can sit
comfortably and have a fruitful reading.

You can sit alone or you can be with your


reading buddy, provided that you both won’t
disturbed others. Is that clear?

I will give you 20 seconds to move. Make


sure you are holding your favorite reading book.

b. Setting of Rules

Say: Today, you shall have silent reading. What is


expected of you when you do silent reading?

1. Read with your eyes and not with your mouth.


2. Stay in one’s seat and never disturb others.
3. Take down important details.
4. Read with comprehension.

B. Dedicated Say: Alright! So I guess you are now ready to read. Make sure
Reading Time everyone reads his/her own favorite story book. Take note of
the following:

Motive Questions:

1. What is the story about?


2. What are the problems faced by the characters in
the story?
3. How did the characters solve the problem?
4. Why did the story end that way?

C. Progress When everyone is finished reading,


Monitoring through
Reflection & Ask: What is the story you read?
Sharing Who among the characters in the story you like
best? Why?
Who among the characters you dislike? Why
What interesting part of the story strikes you
most? Why?
How do you feel about the story? Is there an
instance in your life that you see yourself as the
character in the story?

Allow the pupils to share/talk about the story they read.

Let them share how they feel about the story read.

Let them relate the story in their own personal experiences.

PM Activities:
1. Ask the pupils to to draw a scene from the
story which they can relate in their personal
experiences.
2. Using a graphic organizer determine the
similarities and differences of the characters in
the story.
3. Write a brief summary of the story read.
4. If given the chance to have another ending of
the story, how would you like to end it?

Let the pupils present their outputs.

D. Wrap Up Say: From the story you read today, what important
lessons have you learned? Should you be like
your favorite character in the story or the other
way around? Why?
