I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. Classify the different elements of a short story;
b. Appreciate the importance of contentment, simplicity, and;
c. Perform differentiated activities that will showcase students’ skills and talents.

II. Content:
TOPIC: Elements of a Short Story
REFERENCE: English for a Better World II
Pages 308-316
MATERIALS: Power point presentation, pictures, Bluetooth speaker, and Laptop
SKILLS: Listening: Remembering facts and sequence of the story
Reading: Comprehend the reading text by remembering events from the
story
Speaking: Discussing of ideas, pronouncing words and names correctly
Writing: Describing a concept or entity
VALUES INTEGRATION- To cherish the love for reading and develop cooperation,
self-confidence, collaboration, valuing the life at present, honesty, and contentment

short story.

Short story brief fictional prose narrative that is
shorter than a novel and that usually deals with
only a few characters.
What do you mean by prose fictional?
- It means it is narrative written that tells only
an imaginary or invented story.

There are 5 basic Elements of a Short Story:


1. Setting The setting of a short story is the time and
place where the story happened.
Example: One afternoon, morning or evening.
Long time ago/once upon a time.

2. Characters A character is a person, or sometimes an


animal, who takes part the action of a short
story.
Example: Snow white, Cinderella or Paddington

2 types of characters
a. Protagonist
Protagonist is the main character of the story.
Example: superman, spiderman or Blaze and
b. Antagonist the monster machine.

Antagonist is the opponent, competitor, villain,


enemy, rival or a bad person in a story.
Example: Crusher is the main antagonist and
anti-villain of the show Blaze and the Monster
3. Event Machines.

Event are what happens in the story. Events


involve actions. The main events are the most
important events in the story.
4. Plot
The plot is the sequence of events in which
each event affects the next one through the
principle of cause-and-effect.

5. Theme
The theme of a short story is the central idea or
belief in a short story. It is a message that the
writer wants to share the viewer or reader.
This time, I am going to show you a short story and
all you have to do is to listen properly because I
have further questions after. Understand?
