Comparison of
Adjectives
“Best friend’’
Alex is a Grade 3 student. And when he is bored, he loves to eat chocolate.
Alex has a friend. Her name is Jubs. Jubs and Alex love to eats sweets like ice cream,
cakes, candies and many more.
Jubs and Alex has a friend name Len. Len loves to eat sweets too. And she also loved
to eat in an eat all you can restaurant.
The positive degree of adjective

-is used when simply describing a persons or


things.

Examples:
1.The Atis tree is tall.
(The adjective here is tall that describe the atis tree.)
2. Anita is young.
3. Carlo is intelligent
2. Comparative degree of adjective
- is used when comparing two person, things or
place.
Examples:
1.The ipil-ipil tree is taller than the atis tee.
(The word THAN follows the comparative form is use to compare the
two person, things or place.)
2. Josephine is younger than Anita.
3. Alex is more intelligent than Carlo.
RULE:
- The comparative degree of adjectives with one
or two syllables is formed by adding “er”.

Ex. Brighter, louder, nearer, funnier


Alex is funnier than Ken.
Celia is prettier than Doris.
RULE:
- The comparative degree of adjective with 2 or
more syllables is formed by adding more before
the adjective.

Ex: more obedient, more comfortable, more responsible


Water is more refreshing than juice.
Superlative degree of adjective
.The superlative degree is used when comparing three
or more persons, things or place.

Examples:
The Acasia tree is the taller of them all.
Irene is the youngest of them all.
Eric is the most intelligent of the three.
RULE:
- The superlative degree of adjectives is formed by
adding “est” to the adjective.

Examples: longest, widest, loudest


Dado runs fastest.
RULE:
- The superlative degree of adjectives with 2 or more
syllables is formed by adding most before the adjective.

Example:
most courteous, most beautiful, most intelligent
Christy is the most responsible person in the class.
