The root of the problem lies in the use of different units than
those with which we are familiar. In Japanese ten thousand is

sand. Multiples of this ten thousand unit are then used up to a
hundred million which in turn is expressed not as 100-units-of-l-
million but as l-unit-of-100 million. It is some consolation that
Japanese numbers reconverge with English numbers at the tril
lion mark, but at that level the problem becomes one more of
mathematics than of language!

this means "bottom-grabbing." Since this sounds misleadingly
like a party-game from a Hollywood orgy, allow me to proffer
the more considered translation of /zlast-syllable catchball/,
The rules are as follows. Player 1 says a word. Player 2 then
has to produce a word that begins with the last syllable of Player
l's word. Player 2 then responds with a word beginning with
the last syllable of Player l's word, and so on and so on.
If the game were played in English it would run like this:
