Liberia is ripe for business

2023
PROPOSAL FOR
WASTE MANAGEMENT
& JANITORIAL SERVICE
The urgency of a strategic and targeted support for the right and
efficient kinds of waste management investment stems from
concerns as our healthcare service delivery system continues to face
various systemic challenges that affect efficient healthcare delivery
and the provision of basic water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH)
services. Liberia faces significant risks due to the high increase of
solid waste, including threats to public health, environmental
degradation, and social-economic challenges. Addressing these risks
requires a multi-faceted approach that encompasses infrastructure
development, community engagement, policy implementation, and
sustainable practices to ensure effective solid waste management.

At BUILD GREEN, we are committed to becoming the ideal

partner for our environment. We understand the importance of
sustainability and the impact that our actions can have on the planet.
As such, we have implemented a range of practices and technologies
to minimize the increase waste in Liberia and promote eco-friendly
living.

This proposal is a true and accurate description of the Sanitation

industry of Liberia and provide a firsthand information as far as
could be ascertained at time of proposal.

INDUSTRY OVERVIEW

The Sanitation industry, just like most businesses in Liberia, depends on strong
consumer spending to spur the demand for industry products. Going forward, as
the economy of Liberia continues to recover and consumers are expected to
loosen their discretionary budgets, the industry is experiencing a massive
growth.

Waste Management and Janitorial Services are critical components of public

health and environmental sustainability in Liberia. The emphasis on sanitation
within the Boakai UP regime has created a conducive environment for
investment in the sanitation industry. The government’s focus on improving
infrastructure and implementing sustainable solutions has not only enhanced
public health but also presented opportunities for private sector investment.
Investors are likely to find favorable conditions, including supportive policies,
potential partnerships with government agencies, and a growing market for
sanitation-related products and services.

The industry is responsible for empowering several skills and unskilled

laborers. It is important to state that the country currently have few major Solid
Waste Management Company such as, Monrovia City Corporation (MCC),
Zoomlion Liberia, and Liberia Waste Management Corporation (LWMC).
MCC is the local government authority responsible for managing the city’s
affairs, it also plays a role in waste management initiatives. It’s worth noting
that no company has a lion share of the available market. New entrant into the
industry can favorably compete for the available market.

Over and above, the Waste Management & Janitorial Services industry is a
profitable industry and it is open for any aspiring entrepreneur to come in and
establish his or her business; you can choose to start on a small scale in a street
corner or you can choose to start on a large scale with several outlets in key
cities through Liberia.

build a standard and one stop Waste Management and cleaning service in
Liberia.

SWOT ANALYSIS
Our intention to start just one outlet in Liberia is to test run the business for a
period of Two to Five years to know if we will invest more money, expand the
business and then open other brand branches across all major towns and key
cities in Liberia.
We are quite aware that there are several Waste Management & Janitorial
Services Companies all over Monrovia and even in the same location where we
intend locating ours, which is why we are following the due process of
establishing a business.
We know that if a proper SWOT analysis is conducted for our business, we will
be able to position our business to maximize our strength, leverage on the
opportunities that will be available to us, mitigate our risks and be welled
equipped to confront our threats.
We hired the services of an expert HR and Business Analyst with bias in the
Sanitation & Environmental Industries to help us conduct a thorough SWOT
analysis and to help us create a Business model that will help us achieve our
business goals and objectives. This is the summary of the SWOT analysis that
was conducted.

 Strength:

Firstly, there is a growing demand for waste management services due to

increasing environmental concerns and regulations. We can capitalize on this
trend by offering eco-friendly waste disposal solutions, which can be a
significant competitive advantage. Additionally, the Janitorial Service segment
benefits from the increasing outsourcing trend among businesses, as they seek
to focus on their core operations and leave non-core activities such as cleaning
to specialized service providers, so also our management team members are
people who have what it takes to grow a business from start – up to profitability
with a record time.

 Weakness:

Among other things, our weakness could be the limited resources available for
startup (Initial Capital). One of the weaknesses of the industry is its
susceptibility to economic downturns. During periods of economic recession,
businesses may cut costs by reducing or eliminating janitorial services,
impacting the company’s revenue. Moreover, the industry is highly competitive,
with low barriers to entry. This can lead to price wars and margin erosion if the
company does not differentiate itself effectively.
 Opportunities:

With the increasing emphasis on sustainability and environmental

responsibility, there is a growing demand for innovative waste management
solutions such as recycling programs and sustainable waste disposal methods.
We can also explore diversification into related services such as facility
maintenance or green cleaning solutions to expand its market reach.
We have been able to conduct thorough feasibility studies and market survey
and we know what our potential customers will be looking for when they visit
all the long term Waste Storage Facilities in Liberia; we are well positioned to
take on the opportunities that will come our way.

 Threat:

Just like any other business, one of the primary threats facing the sector is
regulatory changes. Evolving environmental regulations can impact operational
costs and require investments in new technologies or processes to remain
compliant. Additionally, the industry faces the threat of technological
disruption, particularly in waste management where advancements in recycling
technologies or waste-to-energy processes could alter traditional business
models.
