Awareness
Date of the Seminar: July 12,2020
Venue of the Seminar: Webinar
Speaker/s: Ms. Vanessa Vergara; Sir. Edmundo Amican
III; Dr. Miguel Azcuana
Sponsor/Organizer: JCI Batangas Caballero; JCI Anilao Batangas;
JCI Batangas Balisong
Attendee/s:
Objective/Purpose  To have awareness about coral
bleaching
 To use all the learnings to advocate
protection of marine life specially in the
province of Batangas

What general learning or big ideas have you gained from the seminar?

 The meaning of coral bleaching; its effect to marine life; its impact
to us.
 The different stressors that causes coral bleaching
 the things we can do to save marine life

What are your insights and/ or reflections from the seminar?

 The seminar started by giving the meaning of coral bleaching and

its impact to the whole planet. Coral bleaching affects not only
marine species but also humans. Based on the study,90% of Coral
reefs in the Philippines will die in 2050. This generation is lucky to
see the beauty of Marine life but how about the generation in 2050?
Maybe, they will not be able to see that beauty because we let
them die.
 This seminar serves as a can opener for me. It gave me more
knowledge about coral bleaching, its impact and how an individual
like me can help coral reefs.
 Educating yourself; Sharing it to your friends; Letting your voice be
heard; Taking action; helping local farmers; and volunteering are
some ways to help coral reefs
What do you like most about the seminar?

 For the whole seminar, I like the flow of the seminar; how they
divided the topic and the time limit for every speaker. Also, I like
the break out session, where the whole group is divided into
smaller group to have interaction and to answer all the questions
given by the attendees.
 I like the whole content of the seminar. The speakers are very
knowledgeable on the topic and they gave us the awareness about
coral bleaching.

How will you apply the learning and insights from the seminar in your area
of concern in consonance with the current thrust of the Lipa Archdiocesan
Social Action Commission, Inc.

 Since Batangas province is surrounded by water, maybe it is the

time to gave awareness about coral bleaching because it is not a
joke, it is really happening. Our coral reefs are sick and if we let
them, they die. We need to protect marine life for the future
generations.
