Rohan Celebrates Diwali

By- preeti kapur

Once upon a time, in a small village, there lived a little

boy named Rohan. Rohan was very excited because
Diwali, the Festival of Lights, was just around the cor-
ner. He loved Diwali because it meant lots of fun and
sweets!

Rohan’s day started

early on Diwali. His
mom woke him up,
and they both went
outside with a box of
colorful chalk. They
drew beautiful pat-
terns on the ground in
front of their house. These patterns were called “rango-
lis,” and they were made of bright colors and pretty de-
signs. Rohan loved drawing rangolis because he could
use all the colors he liked.

After finishing the rangoli, Rohan’s mom gave him a

tiny clay lamp called a “diya.” Rohan carefully placed
a little oil in it and a tiny cotton wick. Then, his mom
helped him light it. The diya’s flame flickered in the
morning breeze, and Rohan’s eyes sparkled with delight.
The little lamp made their home look so warm and wel-
coming.

In the evening, Rohan’s family dressed up in their best

clothes. Rohan put on his brand new kurta, which was
bright and colorful. His mom had prepared delicious
sweets and snacks for everyone to enjoy. There were
sweets like “laddoos” and “jalebis” that Rohan loved to
eat. He even got to help his mom make some of them.

As the sun set, Rohan and his family lit many more di-
yas and placed them all around the house. The whole
village looked like a magical place with all the glowing
lamps. Rohan’s heart filled with happiness as he saw
the beautiful sight.

After lighting the lamps, Rohan and his friends burst

firecrackers in an open field. They made colorful and
sparkling fireworks fill the night sky. The air was filled
with the sound of laughter and cheers. Rohan loved the
bright colors and loud pops of the fireworks. It was so
much fun!

Finally, it was time for the best part of Diwali - the ex-
change of gifts. Rohan’s grandparents and aunts and
uncles all came over to their house. They exchanged
beautifully wrapped gifts, and Rohan got a special toy
truck that he had wished for a long time.

But Diwali was not just about gifts and sweets. It was
also a time to remember the stories of Lord Rama and
Lord Krishna and the triumph of good over evil. Rohan’s
mom told him these wonderful stories, and Rohan lis-
tened with wide eyes.

As the night grew quiet, Rohan felt so happy and con-

tent. He knew that Diwali was not just about lights and
sweets, but it was a time for love, togetherness, and
spreading happiness. With a big smile on his face, he
went to bed, knowing that Diwali was the most special
and joyful festival of all.

And that’s how little Rohan celebrated Diwali, the Festival

of Lights, with his family and friends.

Mother Duck And The Fox
By Lakshmi Navin Sherman

One day, a mother duck and her ducklings were on their

way to a lake. The ducklings were having fun following
their mother around and quack-quacking as they went.

Suddenly, the mother

duck noticed a fox out
in the distance. ‘Chil-
dren, hurry to the lake!’
she yelled. ‘There’s a
fox!’

The ducklings ran towards the water. The mother duck

was wondering what to do. She had to do something to
save her babies.

She had a bright idea. She decided to act injured. She

started walking with one wing dragging on the ground.

When the fox saw her, he was overjoyed. ‘It looks like
she’s hurt and can’t fly!’ he thought to himself. ‘I’m sure
I’ll be able to catch the mother duck and eat her!’ He ran
towards her.

When the mother duck saw the fox running to attack her,
she stopped dragging and started running. She turned
to look at her ducklings and saw that they had jumped
into the lake. She was relieved.

Just when the fox was about to catch her, the mother
duck spread her wings and flew into the air. She landed
in the middle of the lake. Her ducklings swam towards
her and they were together again.

The fox looked at the mother duck and her ducklings in

amazement. He’d been tricked by the mother duck. He
could not reach them now as they were in the middle of
the lake.

Moral of the story- Intelligence always wins over might.
