CEC-3150 Structural Analysis – I (SDM, MDM and Virtual Work Method) Home Assignment

1 Analyse the continuous beam and frame shown in Figs. 1 & 2 respectively using slope deflection method and
determine the support reactions/moments.

2 Using the method of virtual work, determine the horizontal displacement of roller A and the rotation of the frame
at joint B. The frame is shown in Fig. 3. The cross-section and material properties of the frame are constant.

3 Using the method of virtual work, determine the vertical displacement at D and rotation at B. The frame members
have a 10 cm x 10 cm square cross section. Modulus of elasticity is 200 GPa. The frame is shown in Fig. 4.
