Kenzel: Good day! We are group 1 and we are here to present our Mindanao inspired t-
shirt with a tagline “Yamang Mindanao: Ethnic Pride of Mindanao”.

(next slide)

Kenzel: Here is the official publication material of our t-shirt design. Our t-shirt is inspired
by 3 ethnic groups in Mindanao: T’boli, Yakan and Maranao. We will give a short
background about these tribe as well as the meaning behind our chosen tagline as we go
along in our presentation.

Denise: “Yamang Mindanao: Ethnic Pride of Mindanao” is the official tagline of our t-shirt.
As we all know, Mindanao is the 3rd major and 2nd largest island in the Philippines. It is
rich both in arts and culture. Our tagline highlights how unique the arts and culture of
Mindanao is, particularly in the chosen ethnic group in Mindanao, which is T'boli, Yakan
and Maranao.

Denise: The T'boli is one of the indigenous Filipino ethnic groups located in South
Cotabato. Its culture is deeply rooted in and inspired by nature. The most well-known
T'boli craft and one of the tribe's traditional textiles is the T'nalak, or sacred cloth that is
made from abaca. This cloth is exchanged during marriages and used as a cover during
births.

Sharlette: One of the largest indigenous Filipino ethnolinguistic groups in the Sulu
Archipelago is the Yakan people. They are known for their famous artwork "Batik-batik".
The natural environment that surrounds the Lamitan, Basilan, served as inspiration for
the Yakan tribe's designs. These fabrics, which are primarily made from pineapple and
abaca fibers, can be identified by their geometric designs and daring color choices.

Sharlette: And lastly, the Maranao, which is considered as one of the biggest Islamic
ethnic groups in the Philippines, are renowned for their intricate weaving and metal and
woodworking. The name Maranao, which refers to their traditional homeland in the region
around Lake Lanao on the Bukidnon-Lanao Plateau, means "People of the Lake." They
are known for their artwork "Sarimanok" and "Okir".

Allyson: This slide shows the front view of our t-shirt design. On the upper part of our t-
shirt just below the neckline, it shows a series of Maranao’s okir and it shows radial
symmetry. On the side of the sleeve, we have the Maranao’s flower-bearing okir and it
shows reflection. The long pattern that you see starting from the upper part of the sleeve
down to the bottom of the shirt is the T’nalak of T’boli and it shows frieze pattern. On the
middle of our t-shirt, you will see a bird-like drawing pattern. This is what you called the
Sarimanok of Maranao and it shows dilation on the tail part and translation on the wing
part. And lastly, the figure you see below the tail of the Sarimanok is the Baybayin Culture
Okir of Maranao and it shows rotation.

Allyson: On the other hand, this slide shows the back view of our t-shirt design. As you
see in the middle of our t-shirt, there is a big doughnut-like shape. This design is called
Batik-batik of Yakan and it shows a wallpaper pattern. I will not discuss anymore the other
design present in back view of our t-shirt design since these was discussed during our
discussion in the designs present in front view of our t-shirt.

Edrix: The elements, geometric figures and the color patterns present in the t-shirt design
will help the people to appreciate more the beauty and how wonderful the arts and culture
of Mindanao is. Through our t-shirt design, it helps to promote Mindanao traditional arts
as well as its protection and preservation or what we called “cultural preservation”. And
lastly, it helps us to develop our patriotism since it promotes as well the arts and culture
of what we have on our own country.

Edrix: With this, we are hoping that more people will appreciate the beauty of arts and
culture in Mindanao. In addition, we are also hoping that more people will patronize their
products. By doing this, it helps us to build our own identity as a country
