environment (mountain, forest, wood, valley, hill, swamp) followed
by language practice;
 Students have been given homework- to describe their environment,
particularly their hometown / village, their home
Materials:
1. Visual aids (pictures or posters related to recycling and the environment)
2. A list of recyclable and non-recyclable items.
3. Small cards with discussion topics.
4. computer, projector, flip chart, notebooks, worksheets.
Procedure:
Introduction (10 minutes):
1. Start by displaying visual aids related to recycling and the environment
(see appendix 1). Discuss the images and elicit vocabulary related to
recycling and environmental issues.
2. Briefly introduce the topic of recycling, its importance, and the benefits it
offers to the environment.
Activity 1 - Vocabulary Building (15 minutes): 3. Provide a list of recyclable
and non-recyclable items (see appendix 2). Review the list together, explaining
what each item is.
4. Divide the class into pairs or small groups. Give each group a set of the
items on small cards (one card per item).
5. Instruct the groups to categorize the items into recyclable and non-
recyclable piles.
6. After the activity, have each group share their results with the class,
discussing their reasoning behind the categorization.
Activity 2 - Group Discussion (10 minutes): 7. Prepare a list of discussion
topics related to recycling and the environment on separate cards. For example:
"What are some simple ways to reduce waste at home?", "Do you think
recycling is an individual's responsibility or a government's duty?", or "What
are the environmental consequences of not recycling?"
8. Distribute the discussion topic cards to the groups. Each group should
choose a card and discuss the topic among themselves.
9. After the group discussions, have a spokesperson from each group
summarize their discussion for the class.
Activity 3 - Role Play (10 minutes): 10. Divide the class into pairs. Assign
roles: one student is a concerned citizen, and the other is a city official
responsible for waste management.
11.Provide a scenario: the concerned citizen wants to propose a recycling
program in their city, and the city official needs to listen and respond to
their suggestions.
12.Each pair should engage in a role-play conversation. Encourage students
to use the vocabulary and ideas discussed earlier in the lesson.
Conclusion (5 minutes): 13. Wrap up the lesson by summarizing the key points
discussed during the activities. Highlight the importance of recycling and its
positive impact on the environment.
Homework (optional): Assign students to research and prepare a short
presentation on a specific recycling project or initiative in their community or
country.
Assessment: Assess students based on their active participation in group
discussions, role-play conversations, and their ability to use vocabulary related
to recycling effectively. Evaluate their understanding of the environmental
issues and solutions discussed during the lesson.
This lesson plan aims to enhance students' speaking skills while engaging them
in meaningful discussions about recycling and its impact on the environment.
