Introduction
BACKGROUND STUDY - One of the most prevalent methods of representing special data
is via mapping. Almost all planning and research-related occupations can enhance their
effectiveness by understanding mapping and geospatial analysis. There are several mapping
software programs; however, they are typically expensive and have a steep learning curve.
Gary Sherman began the development of Quantum GIS in early 2002, and it became an
incubator project of the Open Source Geospatial Foundation in 2007. QGIS (Quantum
Geographic Information System) is a free, open-source software that allows users to create,
edit, visualize, analyze, and publish geospatial information . QGIS offers a wide range of
functionality, such as vector and raster analysis, geoprocessing, geocoding, georeferencing,
web mapping, and 3D visualization. QGIS also supports many data formats and standards,
such as Shapefile, GeoTIFF, GeoJSON, WMS, WFS, and PostGIS.
AIM – The aim of this study is to get introduced to GIS and to develop the skills in digitizing
spatial data using QGIS.
SCOPE
1. The study will help in the digitization of existing roads within the IIT Kharagpur campus
using QGIS
2. It helps in creating attribute tables and layers for documentation which helps in the easy
finding of features of any vector data.

Study Area and Data Collection
Here please mention the complete study area and the infrastructure-related data
created and how it is created by the group. Also, highlight different attributes collected in
creating the spatial data. Add information about the point of origin considered and the points
of destination considered. Add figures and Tables if needed.
Conclusions
Concluded you study with firstly highlighting the need for the study and providing an
overview how the data collection was planned, and the analysis is performed. Then provide
an overview of the important findings. Lastly the application of the study and future scope of
the study.
