Phrasal verb = verb + particle (at, down, in, off, away, on, up …)

The particle modifies the meaning of the verb.

Phrasal verbs are very idiomatic and cannot be translated word for word.

They are sometimes used in combination with prepositions (eg to come up with sth).

EXERCISE

Use a verb from the box to complete each of the sentences below.
