RATIONALE

Water is a vital resource in major aspects of human life especially for drinking,

cooking, and for washing purposes. It is useful for energy generation, food production,

and for cleaning. Lack of access to clean water not only leads to the spread of diseases,

but robs people of the basic human necessities (Salau et al., 2020). One of the biggest

issues in the community is a lack of clean water to drink. Due to the constraints of

cutting-edge water treatment technologies and high energy costs, safe drinking water

may not always be accessible, even in areas with water treatment facilities

(Kumar&Manish 2022).

The process of purifying water involves removing unwanted chemicals, biological

pollutants, suspended solids, and gases from impure water. This procedure aims to

provide water that is suitable for a particular use. There are many reasons why water

filtration systems are important. Innovations in solar-powered water purification are

important for several reasons, such as the fact that they can potentially have a

substantial positive impact while solving several problems. To produce clean drinking

water, it is essential to investigate how solar energy might be connected to water

treatment systems. The possibilities for resolving a water issue, according to Kumar and

Manish (2022), include water conservation, recycling, hazardous waste reduction,

wastewater treatment, impurity prevention, and other water management strategies. As

to the scope of this study, it will be beneficial for the people because it will offer them

access to clean, safe water as well as give the institution a reliable source of drinking

water.
In addition, Sebaii, E. (2015) stated, that solar-powered water purification

technology is one of the most promising technologies due to its environment-friendly

nature and economic viability. These are easy to build, and by offering a variety of

development options, it can be effective. It is also more cost-effective to maintain, and

everyone can use. According to Panchal's (2019) study, tiling solar distillation is one of

the greatest offers because solar energy is a promising source of energy. To have

trustworthy and legitimate data and outcomes, the researchers in this study will also

comply with and provide all necessary materials, legalities, and significant matters. The

project's recipients will receive a clean and secure source of water from the researchers

by using innovative solar water purification technology. In addition to supplying a safe

and dependable source of water for the institution, this study intends to demonstrate

that such water purification is achievable without endangering the environment and can

be made accessible to all people.

Furthermore, Mindanao State University General Santos City as the study site is

primarily driven by the pressing issue of inadequate access to clean drinking water

within the local community. This issue holds significant social and public health

implications, as the scarcity of safe drinking water can lead to waterborne diseases,

reduced quality of life, and environmental challenges. The study aims to develop and

implement sustainable, accessible, and cost-effective solar-powered water purification,

that can make clean drinking water more readily available to the community,

contributing to an improvement in overall public health and well-being.
