CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

A. Background

Phonology is the study of how to pronounce a language. In fact, not only that, we will also le
arn how a language can appear and how languages can disappear.

Fonologi (phonology) adalah ilmu yang mempalajari cara mengucapkan suatu bahasa. Bahka
n, tidak hanya itu saja, kita juga akan mempelajari bagaimana sebuah bahasa bisa muncul dan
bagaimana bahasa bisa menghilang.

Phonology is a branch of linguistics that studies the intricacies of syllables. Syllables can be c
ounted by looking at the number of vowel sounds in the word. Syllables when combined will
form words that will have their own meaning, so that a language is perfect. Phonology is divi
ded into three parts, namely monopthongs, dipthongs, and tripthongs.

Fonologi (phonology) adalah cabang linguistik yang salah satunya mempelajari seluk beluk s
uku kata. Suku kata bisa dihitung dengan melihat jumlah bunyi vokal yang ada dalam kata itu
Suku kata jika bergabung maka akan membentuk kata yang nantinya memiliki makna sendiri,
sehingga sempurnalah sebuah bahasa itu. Phonology terbagi menjadi tiga bagian yaitu mono
pthong, dipthong, dan tripthong.

Monopthongs are vocal sounds that can be said to be pure, consisting of a single vowel that i
s pronounced without the need to change the position of the speaking instrument.

Monopthong adalah bunyi vocal yang bisa di bilang murni, terdiri dari satu vokal tunggal ya
ng di ucapkan tanpa perlu mengubah posisi alat bicara.

Dipthongs are two vowels that are pronounced together to produce a single sound.

Dipthong adalah dua vokal yang diucapkan sekaligus meghasilkan satu bunyi saja.

Tripthongs are the launching of one other vowel and a third vowel, all produced quickly wit
hout interruption.
Tripthong adalah peluncuran dari satu vokal lainya dan vokal ketiga, semua dihasilkan deng
an cepat tanpa gangguan..
