Admission methods to the Master's Degree programme with entry


requirements and academic knowledge assessment in:

1. Stages of the procedure


To be admitted to the degree programme, it is necessary to:

a. Pay the €10 fee following the methods and deadlines laid down in paragraph 3.

b. Wait for the result of the entry requirements assessment. If the requirements are
not met, missing credits (ECTS) can be acquired by passing single courses.
Methods and costs are laid down in Article 41 of the Student Regulations.

c. Carry out the academic knowledge assessment in compliance with the


procedures laid down in paragraph 4.

d. Proceed to enrolment by paying the degree programme tuition fees following the
procedures and deadlines laid down in paragraph 5.
Enrolment can be carried out only after the Student Affairs Office sends the email
informing about the successful result of the entry requirements and academic
knowledge assessment.

Candidates coming from other Italian universities


Candidates coming from other Italian universities, after paying the €10 fee, must follow the
instructions laid down in Article 8, paragraph 3 of the Student Regulations

Graduand candidates
Should the Programme Regulations allow it, students from Sapienza University of Rome or
from other Italian universities who have not graduated yet can also apply for the entry
requirements assessment, subject to the obligation to gain their degree by January 14, 2023
(for Sapienza University of Rome graduands) and by December 17, 2022 (for graduands
coming from other Italian or international universities).

Candidates coming from foreign countries


Procedures for international candidates are indicated in paragraph 6.

2. Admission requirements
Admission to the Degree Programme is open to candidates who acquired to obtain their
bachelor's degree or three-year degree Diploma or other educational qualification deemed
equivalent or in subsequent certified academic educational activities, an overall total of at least
120 ECTS in the following groups of Scientific-Disciplinary Sectors (SSD), in accordance with
the distribution constraints specified below:
a) at least 54 ECTS in at least five of the following foundational Scientific-Disciplinary Sectors
(SSD):
CHIM/07 Chemical foundations of technologies
FIS/01 Experimental Physics
MAT/03 Geometry
MAT/05 Mathematical analysis
MAT/06 Mathematical probability and statistics
MAT/07 Physical mathematics
MAT/08 Numerical analysis
MAT/09 Operations research
ING-INF/05 Information processing systems
b) at least 48 ECTS in at least six of the following core Scientific-Disciplinary Sectors:
ING-IND/08 Hydraulic machines
ING-IND/09 Energy and environment systems
ING-IND/10 Technical industrial physics or ING-IND/11 Technical environmental physics
ING-IND/12 Mechanical and thermal measurements
ING-IND/13 Mechanics applied to machines
ING-IND/14 Mechanical design and machine building
ING-IND/15 Design and methods of industrial engineering
ING-IND/16 Technologies and manufacturing systems
ING-IND/17 Mechanical industrial plants
c) at least 18 ECTS in at least three of the following Engineering Scientific-Disciplinary
Sectors:
ICAR/08 Constructions science
ING-IND/06 Fluid dynamics
ING-IND/21 Metallurgy
ING-IND/22 Material science
ING-IND/31 Electrical engineering or ING-IND/32 Converters, machines and electric drives.

Without prejudice to the requirement of having at least 120 ECTS recognised, the Area
Educational Board may also admit to the degree programme students who do not entirely
meet the distribution constraints in the fields from a) to c) if, based on equivalence
assessments of the recognised educational activities and a possible actual assessment of the
knowledge acquired it is possible to assess the appropriateness of the curricular knowledge.
The Area Educational Board will give additional instructions to these students about the
definition of their study plan and the options to make up for the preparatory knowledge they
lack, in particular, to the cases for which a further assessment test for specific preparatory
knowledge and contents of the master's degree may be required.

A minimum B1 level language proficiency certificate according to the Common European


Framework (CEF) in at least one European Union language is also required.

Such certificate may be replaced by the acquisition of at least 3 ECTS in one of the following
Scientific-Disciplinary Sectors (SSD):
L-LIN/04 Language and translation- French language
L-LIN/05 Spanish literature
L-LIN/06 Hispanic and American language and literature L-LIN/07 Language and
translation – Spanish language
L-LIN/10 English literature
L-LIN/11 Anglo-American languages and literature
L-LIN/12 Language and translation – English language
L-LIN/13 German literature
L-LIN/14 Language and translation – German language

3. Entry requirements assessment


The entry requirements assessment is requested by paying a €10 fee within one of the
following dates, chosen by the student:
- September 15, 2022 (only date available for non-EU students requesting a student
visa)
- October 13, 2022
- November 15, 2022
- December 15, 2022
- January 17, 2023 (date available only for Sapienza University of Rome graduands
and graduates).

The payment is generated on the Infostud system.


The payment must be carried out online with PagoPA (direct payment).
The code to insert on the system is 30844.

The result of the entry requirements assessment will be given on the candidate's institutional
email address (if activated) or on the candidate's personal email address given on Infostud.

4. Academic knowledge assessment


Academic knowledge is deemed appropriate for enrolment if one of the following conditions is
satisfied:

● weighted average of the grades obtained in the exams taken to gain the educational
qualification used to access the master's degree that is equal to or higher to 22/30 or
equivalent to this value.
● final degree grade equal to at least 90/110 or equivalent.

Admission test
In the event of candidates who do not meet the abovementioned criteria, the Area Educational
Board allows an admission test based on a written test on topics concerning the core and
related subjects of mechanical engineering.
On the Course Catalogue (https://corsidilaurea.uniroma1.it/en) – mechanical engineering
(master's degree) – APPLY box, and on the website of the Mechanical Engineering Area
Educational Board (www.ingmecc.uniroma1.it) PROCEDURES section, the syllabuses,
procedures and the calendar of the admission test are available; access to the admission test
is obtained after applying for enrolment with entry requirements assessment, on Infostud.
If the Admission test Committee considers the candidate's knowledge unsatisfactory according
to the thresholds specified, enrolment will not be allowed.
With reference to the American dual degree Curricula, students must have obtained their
degree with a grade equal to or higher than 101 and must prove a good command of the
English language certified by TOEFL or GRE tests.

With respect to the Mechanical Engineering Design Curriculum entirely taught in English,
international students will be admitted only upon pre-selection following the International Office
regulations in accordance with the requirements below:

- IELTS, TOEFL or similar equivalent B2 level of the CEF English language certificate
- bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
- degree grade in GPA (or equivalent) strictly higher than 7/10

The GRE test is considered a preferential qualification for international candidates, as the
GATE in mechanical engineering or sectors included in the L9 degree class for candidates
coming from India (admission limits in the superior quartile).

5. Enrolment
Enrolment is carried out by paying the programme's enrolment tuition fees after completing the
entry requirements and academic knowledge assessment with a successful result.
The payment is generated on the Infostud system.
The payment must be carried out online with PagoPA (direct payment).

6. Candidates with an international educational qualification


Procedures vary according to the citizenship and country of residence of candidates.

Candidates with non-EU citizenship residing abroad and applying for an entry visa and
Chinese students on the Marco Polo project
These candidates must hold the mandatory pre-acceptance letter.
The procedures to follow are indicated at point 7 on the webpage of the Office for Students

Enrolment of candidates with an international educational qualification


Following the successful result for the entry requirements assessment, or after receiving the
pre-acceptance letter, candidates holding an international educational qualification must
complete the enrolment procedure for the two-year master's degree in accordance with point 4
of the Office for Students with International Degrees webpage.
