Homework: Define the other three main categories of System Software and

give examples of each one.

 Utility Programs: Utilities or utility software is a system developed to manage and maintain a
computer. They are considered a part of the operating system, but they do provided some extra
features. Some examples of utility software are antivirus, disk cleaners and backup software.
 Device driver: It is a program that acts as an interface between the device controller and the
operating system. Each device controller needs a device driver to transfer the input-output
signals from the devices to the operating system. Examples of device drivers are sound cards,
graphical cards, modems, computer printers, etc.
 Language Translators: A translator or programming language processor is a generic term that
can refer to anything that converts code from one computer language to another. Examples of
Language Translators are Microsoft Visual Studio GNU, Fortran Assembly Program FAP, Macro
Assembly Program.
