How are you doing?

a little bit tired of course as always. But you know I'm not too bad, not too
bad. How was your weekend? My weekend was good, because yesterday it
was my dad's birthday and we went to the Portuguese restaurant.

Did he enjoy it? Yes. And we bought 2 birthday cakes to him.

lucky him. He gets two birthday cakes. Wow. OK. OK. Yeah. OK. And did
you did you do anything else at the weekend? And I watch TV about the
Grand Prix in Macau.

OK. There was there was a Grand Prix in Macau this weekend, was it? Yes,
this is the first week.

01:43 Crystal: Testing. OK, a test a test like a testing race. Yeah, testing
race.
Was it part of the of the Formula One season or was it like completely like
did they have somebody win or what? What was the ranking? I think they
just try and look at the rack the track.

To test the track. Yeah, I see. Yeah, I think there will be F1 competition in this
weekend.

UMI said I didn't realize that. Let me let me sort of account.

And why and that's interesting why? Why did you want to watch that? Was
it big just because it was in Macau or do you like racing? I'm not very
interested in it but I just OK yeah, it's a big festival. Yeah. Once a year.

Absolutely, yeah, yeah. And is it, does it happen on the street or is there a
special is there, like a special arena or like a special race track in a stadium
or is it, is it on the street? I think it's on the street.

Of course you wouldn't want to go be going to do your shopping and then

suddenly a car goes, you know, groom. Yeah, that would be a bit of history.
You can hear a little bit scary. It's all nice. Absolutely. Yeah.

Yeah. OK. Well, that sounds pretty cool then that's maybe slightly related to
our to our conversation topic. But yes, first of all I wanted to yes to go over
this text that you sent which was was quite it was quite good.

Actually the the length was good as well and there was only a there was only
a few things that I need to go over with you so I can I can share. I can share
our screen and we can we can read this through together.

Uh, yeah, OK. There we go. OK, yes. So again, I thought it was. I thought it
was. I thought it was a little bit of a difficult question, a little bit of a complex
question. But, you know, I think sometimes that's the those are the ones that
that make us think more. You know they make us think more they're more,
they're more challenging.

so why should people in third World countries care about climate change?
And then we go, OK, from my point of view, people in third World countries
concern more of the climate change than others because it affects their life
style directly, and they can observe the natural surroundings that have been
changing badly in recent years.

life styles rather than their their lives.

to be concerned by
And then and then when then for this this verb to concern, we would say that
in Third World countries, people in third world countries should be concerned
by the climate change
there's no doubt that nobody wants to see meet the day in the day in which
the world ends or nobody wants to see the end of the world, and also even no
one wants to die.

Nevertheless, it's really contradictory that humans keep doing things to what
they desire without thinking carefully of others.
They usually lack of enough resources and have limited supports with their
corruptive governments.

heat waves that have occurred frequently in those places

People lives obviously. For example, they have to get used to the unusual
temperature for every season and they have to learn how to protect their
house and prevent any damages from typhoons.

Similarly, people in third World countries realize that their environments that
has been damaged step by step.

Has been damaged set by step at the same time, there are many animals
facing the problem of extinction in these years. For those countries, it's
important to save nature and defend all creatures from harm they or one of
the significant economic incomes in their communities, OK.

As they are one of the significant economic incomes in their communities.

Yeah, OK, perfect. For example, Safari Tour is one of the most necessary
tourist incomes in Africa once the animals.

Ah are about to most the animals are about to go extinct due to the impact of
climate change. that's fine. We could say they are about to go extinct due to
the impact of climate change, but there's another phrase that we use when an
animal is close to being extinct.

We could say once the animals are endangered, we could say.

Is it something that you notice in in Macau? Do you notice these things

changing over the years or not really?
Like sort of coming together, we could say coming together. Ohh, they're
moving together like it's just two, just two seasons. Hmm. Yes. Have two
seasons. OK. OK. And I think I asked you this last time, but.

How cold is it getting in Macau at the moment? Is it still? Is it still pretty

warm or it's colder today?

What kind of temperatures are we talking about here?

Is 17 degrees Celsius.

Yeah, like the highest temperature, the highest temperature in Macau.

14:18 Crystal: At Christmas, New Years car for you wear a scarf during the
winter. What about gloves? Gloves. No need. It's so hot. OK, OK. You don't
need you don't need. You don't need gloves then. how has work been
going this week?

I can agree with that for sure.

I believe it's from South America. So that would that would make sense. The
Andes, right. Oh, wait. It was the Andes. Let me remind myself before I say
something stupid. Yeah. The Andes, the mountains. The mountain range in
South America. The Andes.

It says like the second, the second highest mountain range in the world.

Hmm. I believe. Mm-hmm. So I think the obviously the highest, the highest is
in, you know, the Everest. And then I think the and these are the are the the
2nd.

perfunctory- Carried out something done without interest or effort or feeling.

viz-Is like an abbreviation. It's. It's a sort of abbreviation that comes from that
comes from Latin-means in other words

Excessive poaching-like illegal hunting illegal hunts.

Yeah, it's just like it's it's usually when people hunt an animal just for one
thing, like, you know, in elephants, they might want their, you know, their ivory,
their tusks.

But I don't suppose there's any big hunting that happens in in Macau or
I don't suppose there's any animals or around the outside or anything like that.

Poaching is also a way of cooking an egg

If you poach an egg, you basically you get the you get the water, you get the
water hot, and then you kind of you is boiling and then you put the egg in the
water and it spin, it spins around. That's poaching, poaching an egg.

Indigenous- People who people who are originally from.

The indigenous people are the people who were, who were in the, who were
in that place before anybody else.

Americans are like the Native Americans, you know, like the Indians, for
example.

Regal- royalty. So what's the plan here to make regal clothes? So to make
clothes for for royalty. Basically, to make clothes for kings and Queens
basically. OK.

Exorbitance -Usually we associate it with like. With prices so an exorbitant

prices like a sort of ridiculously high price, that sort of thing.

attitudes Towards Luxury Shopping

. So what do we what do we think of? What do we well, for example, what do

you think of the general content of the article in general, what, what do
you think about these ideas?

What do you think about luxury items? Is our do you? Are you a fan? Do you
like buying luxury items or do you think you would buy luxury items in an in a
perfect world?
Yeah. Homemade homemade items.

Could be a luxury item now if you if you if you spend enough. If you charge
enough money for it, it could be a luxury item, right?

there are there lots of these types of shops.

Why is that? Why is that, do you think? Why specifically, Hong Kong
people, would you say?

How to say
do you think that people who buy luxury brands do you think that they are
just wasting their money?

Buying these kind of brands actually doesn't really mean anything.

Some people try to say that the luxury brands are like an investment. I don't
know what you think about that. Do you know what I mean? Like some
people. But some people say some people try to say ohh, you know, if you if
you buy this really expensive item now, then you know later it will be you
know.
They will be worth more that kind of thing,

But yeah, I I I'm not sure. I don't always understand that. I mean for example, I
I was having a look on the I was having a look on the website, you know
the the company that's mentioned in the in the in the article and I was seeing.

Some, like really expensive items like you could buy, you know, you talked
about a car earlier. You could buy a scarf for, like, thousands and thousands
of dollars, you know. Wow. Yeah. But.

Normally we associate.

Well, I don't know. You can tell me if you think it's fair, but usually when we
think of things that are made in China, we we we usually think of like really
cheap things. Ohh, me too. OK. Yeah. Like if if if it has the made in China
thing written on it then usually.

Something that's really cheap. So why? Why so say the problem is it doesn't
have a good quality.

That's what people think. But yeah, that's what people think. Yeah. Do you
think that is fair, though? Like, do you think that that's a that's true? Yeah. Or
is that is there a different idea in Macau, for example for me, I think it's true
because actually it's OK. It doesn't have a good quality.

Why can't you use it for a long a long while? It doesn't last for very
long.

People think that they like luxury like they what they buy lots of luxury
products. Why do you think that it's related? Like, why would you if you
come from somewhere where there's a lot of cheap, you know, cheap
things, then why do you think they would like, really expensive things,
you know?

it was trying to trying to farm the animals, to keep them, you know, to
increase their population so that you know, so that can be kept alive and that
they can, they can use Their fur or their or their fleece as, as I said. Do you
think that that's do you think that the companies’ objectives are really so like,
you know, charitable or so selfless or do you think that they have another
motive behind their what they're doing. I

Do people really notice? Do you think people really notice if you are
wearing a super expensive Jacket?
Or do you think, do you think that people actually, I mean, if you're walking
down the street and you see people see people wearing that, do you do you
sort of think that's an expensive brand or do you not really notice?

What kind of what kind of brands would that be? Like? Gucci and stuff? Is
that the ones you're talking about? Yeah. And then Louise becomes.

have you ever been in these shops

Sometimes it's like, well, sometimes I think that people are. It's like they're
paying all this money for this. You know this brand. But then sometimes it
feels like they're all they're doing is paying a lot of money in order to
advertise the brand. You know, they buy, they buy a T-shirt with a big like, you
say with a big logo.

It's like, well, why would you want? Why you're giving the company, like,
free advertising, not only. Not only are you giving them free advertising,
but you are paying a lot of money in order to do it, right?

Just because it has the logo, it's suddenly worth you know, a lot more money.
And I mean, what, what do you think?

do you do you do a lot of shopping for clothes in general?

I feel like I could spend the money on other things, to be honest. I feel like
I could spend it on better things. Perhaps that's just my opinion. Anyway. I
don't know. I mean, what? What would you say you spend most of your
money on? Is there anything in particular?

Where do clothes rank on that list? How important are they on that list,
do you think?

So how if you if you made a list of the, you know the things that you
spend your money on, where, where would clothes be on the list so that
they like

You would prefer to spend it on the travelling rather than on clothes. Of

course.
How long normally do your clothes last?
Do you think that is intentional or do you think it is just because the
quality is so bad? For example sometimes people say ah well, the
companies they break the products on purpose so that you have to so that
you have to buy another one.
people even talk about that with iPhones though, right? People say ohh the
iPhones, they only they only last for ohh. You know, they only last for.

A few a couple of years and then then the battery dies..

And have you noticed that with the battery?.

my, my mum had that problem a couple of years ago with her
Her, her battery just died, and she wanted to get it. She wanted to get it
replaced. So she didn't want to get a new phone.

Why replace it? Well, my mom, my mom doesn't like technology. OK, so she
doesn't want to have to learn. Yeah, she doesn't want to have to learn any
new. OK, any new? You know, anything like that? And I think she also was
annoyed. I think she was annoyed that the battery.

You know didn't last, which I can understand. I can understand that being
very annoying, right?.

Yeah. So that's why she just wanted it replaced and everybody sits to her.
Everybody said, oh, well, you know, you could just get, you could just upgrade
your phone. And she was like, no, I don't want to. I don't want to upgrade my
phone. I want to get. I want to get the battery replaced. OK. It is a it is a
waste though, right. Do you think it's it's a it's a waste of technology

This is breaking all the time. If you have to keep upgrading, then all of the old
technology. Where does it go is sort of you know it goes, it goes into the bin,
right? Yeah, exactly. It's a waste. Right. Exactly, absolutely.

What does this week look like for you? Do you have? Do you have any
plans this week or the same? Same old, same old?. Yes. OK. That sounds
that sounds like a lot of fun. Anything with food.
Sounds a little fun. Yeah, I'm just gonna try and get through the week. And,
you know the work. My Academy. I don't want to think about it, but I'm sure I'll.
I'm sure it'll be OK. I'll. I'll survive. I need to. I need to be strong. Need need to
work to pay the bills. So yeah.
