MOVIE REVIEW: THE LORAX

The Lorax movie is an animated adaptation from the book by Dr. Seuss, that tells the
story about a legend creature that speaks for the trees and tries to prevent the destruction of the
environment by the Once-ler, a greedy businessman who values the profit more rather than the
environment. This movie can be connected to environmental economics and the concept of
supply and demand in many ways. I like this movie and it’s our first time watching it, the
animation is great especially the color grading of the movie. It’s a perfect movie for kids because
they will easily understand the plot of this movie.
Once-ler represents a producer in the market, he want to maximize the profits by cutting
the trees to increase the production of his product Thneeds, and as his product grows he start
cutting the trees the lead to an environmental degradation. The legend Lorax, represents a
voice of environmental society. The perfect example here is Greta Thunberg, a Swedish
environmental activist. The Lorax wants to limit the damages caused by Once-ler production.
The negative externalities such us air and water pollution and deforestation are not reflected in
the price of Thneeds which leads to their market failure.
This movie highlights the importance of our environment and how to manage and
sustain our resources, we need to take in mind the long-term effects of the production and
consumption decisions on the environment. By planting another trees like in the movie, we can
manage the consumption of the production and provide a sustainable resource. So by the help
of Ted, they plant it at Thneedville and as the days goes by they start planting the trees again
outside of the ville, which is one of the solution to save our environment to deforestation.
Overall, The Lorax demonstrates how environmental issues are important. They
highlights the importance of balancing of economic growth with the environmental conservation
to achieve a sustainable future for the people and also the lives around. Sadly it’s also
happening in our world, big companies want to maximize their profit and production and leads to
destruction while the communities living in that area are suffering because of them. We need to
be contented and learn to manage everything that revolves around us because someday if we
let them do want they want the future will be the one to pay from what we did right now.
MOVIE REVIEW: AVATAR

Avatar I is a sci-fi movie that is released in 2009, this becomes famous because of the
CGI that they did in the movie are comparable to what kind of movies today like Avengers that
requires a big budget and effort doing CGI. I really like this movie, this movie is ground breaking
and has a lot of connection regarding to the struggles of Indigenous people and sustainable
development that is happening not just in the movie but also in reality. Their struggle against the
Team of Jake Sully who wants from planet Earth. The movie plot revolves around the Na’vi, an
indigenous species on the Planet Pandora and the humans who seek to exploits it’s natural
resources on that planet.
The tribe of Na’vi represents as the peaceful and sustainable society the lives in balance
with nature, relying on natural resources to meet their needs. They also shown to have a very
deep spiritual connection to their environment and to consider all living beings are sacred. The
way of living represents the model of sustainable development, that care and values the
importance of environment in their lives. While the humans represents the corporate greeds,
that seeks exploitation to extract resources from Na’vi land without regard consequences. This
is really happening around the globe, that many indigenous community faced dispossession,
colonization, and environmental destructions in the hands of the big industries.
The movie highlights the significance of indigenous knowledge and managing
sustainable natural resources. The tribe of Na’vi possess knowledge and deep understanding
about environment that’s why they didn’t want humans to get what they need and destroy their
community. It also highlights the significance of respecting the indigenous people’s rights and
provide a meaningful consultation and collaboration with them in decision-making process.
Humans disregarding their rights and their aspect of identity portrayed as a violation of human
rights.
Overall, Avatar I demonstrates the significance of the indigenous people’s participation
in the sustainable development efforts and the need to value and recognized their knowledge,
rights and cultural values in decision-making. It also emphasizes the importance of caring and
protecting the environment and the interconnectedness of all living things for a sustainable
developing future.

MOVIE REVIEW: WALL – E

WALL-E is a Disney-Pixar film that depicts the narrative of a little robot who is left alone on
Earth to clean up the rubbish left by people who have fled the planet. WALL-E has had a
tremendous impact on the environment and society in addition to being a highly acclaimed film.

WALL-E emphasizes the necessity of environmental protection as well as the hazards of

rampant consumerism. The film conveys a powerful message about the consequences of
humanity's irresponsible and excessive waste generation. This message has touched a chord
with many people, inspiring them to implement more environmentally friendly behaviors in their
daily lives.

In addition to environmental issues, WALL-E investigates the dangers of a society that becomes
overly reliant on technology and automation. The film depicts a bleak future in which humans
have lost contact with nature and with one another. This message has prompted critical
discussions about the role of technology in our lives and the value of human connection.

WALL-E is a film that has motivated spectators to think about the influence of their activities on
the environment and society. It serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible
consumerism and the power that individuals have to create positive change.

MOVIE REVIEW: HAPPY FEET

Happy Feet is a movie all about penguins that can sing and have their heartsong. But only one
penguin is exceptional to all the other penguins. Mumble is a little penguin born into a colony of
Emperor penguins; he lacks the ability to sing. But he has this talent that no one has seen
before, which is tap dancing. The movie happy feet don't directly address the problem about the
controversial issue that we are facing which is climate change. But this movie tackles the
problem of animal captivity. The film also portrays animal captivity negatively, as Mumble is
portrayed to be sad and yearning for his natural surroundings.

Climate change, as well as overfishing, were addressed in this film. Due to an upsurge in global
temperatures, penguins were facing a serious threat to their environment. Their habitat has
been substantially impacted, which has an impact on their lives. Overfishing also has an impact
on the penguins, causing them to confront a food crisis. Penguins will starve and eventually die.
Plastic pollution also harms the health of penguins and affects the situation of their environment.
If these won't be resolved, it will kill a high number of penguins, their population will decrease
and might lead to animal(penguin) extinction.

This movie raises awareness about the crisis that we’re currently facing right now. It doesn't
totally highlight climate change and animal captivity, but it's an eye-opener to how big it can
affect the lives of penguins and other animals. Happy Feet shows that even a small penguin can
take action to save its dying surroundings. He uses his unique talent (from the rest of his family)
as an instrument to talk to people about how overfishing and pollution are slowly killing them.
And with the help of his family and the other penguins, they convince the people to stop
overfishing and polluting their place.

Happy Feet is a relatable movie and its viewers can somehow relate to it. Being an outcast
(different talent or different lifestyle) is a hard situation, and it will question your capabilities. But
this is not a hindrance to making a difference and protecting your loved ones.
