Answer all the questions:
1. Two cones have their heights in the ratio 1 : 3 and radii in the ratio 3:1.
What is the ratio of their volumes?
2. Volume and surface area of a solid hemisphere are numerically equal.
What is the diameter of hemisphere?
3. The volume of the greatest sphere that can be cut off from a cylindrical
log of wood of base radius 1 cm and height 5 cm is
4 10 20
(a) π cm³ (b) π cm³ (c) 5 π cm³ (d) π cm³

4. A circus tent is cylindrical up to a height of 4 m and conical above it. If

its diameter is 105 m and its slant height is 40 m, the total area of
canvas required to built the tent is
(a) 7920 m² (b) 7820 m² (c) 9720 m² (d) 2645 m²
5. The cost of painting the T.S.A. of a cone at 5 paise/cm² is 35.20. If its
slant height is 25 cm, then its volume is
(a) 1223 cm³ (b) 1232 cm³ (c) 1323 cm³ (d) 1332 cm³
Part B (5 × 𝟑 = 𝟏𝟓)
6. A solid wooden toy is in the form of a hemisphere surmounted by a
cone of same radius. The radius of hemisphere is 3.5 cm and the total
5
wood used in the making of toy is 166 cm³. Find the height of the toy.

Also, find the cost of painting the hemispherical part of the toy at the
22
rate of 10 per cm². (𝑈𝑠𝑒 𝜋 = 7
)

7. A metallic cylinder has radius 3 cm and height 5 cm. To reduce its

weight, a conical hole is drilled in the cylinder. The conical hole has a
3 8
radius of cm and its depth is cm. Calculate the ratio of the volume of
2 9
metal left in the cylinder to the volume of metal taken out in conical
shape.
8. A solid right-circular cone of height 60 cm and radius 30 cm is
dropped in a right-circular cylinder full of water of height 180 cm and
radius 60 cm. Find the volume of water left in the cylinder, in cubic
22
metres. (𝑈𝑠𝑒 𝜋 = )

9. The largest possible sphere is carved out of a wooden solid cube of

22
side 7 cm. Find the volume of the wood left. (𝑈𝑠𝑒 𝜋 = )

10. A wooden toy was made by scooping out a hemisphere of same

radius from each end of a solid cylinder. If the height of the cylinder
is 10 cm, and its base is of radius 3.5 cm, find the volume of wood in
22
the toy. (𝑈𝑠𝑒 𝜋 = )

Part C (1 × 𝟓 = 𝟓)
11. A solid toy is in the form of a hemisphere surmounted by a
right circular cone of same radius. The height of the cone is
10 cm and the radius of the base is 7 cm. Determine the
volume of the toy. Also find the area of the coloured sheet
22
required to cover the toy. (𝑈𝑠𝑒 𝜋 = and √149 = 12.2)
