Read the passages about Alan and Belinda and answer the questions. For each Awarded
question, choose either A(Alan) or B(Belinda). You need to choose each person more
than once.

I’m Alan and I’m 28 years old. I live with my wife and our two
sons. We live in a house with a very small garden. The

l
children love dogs but our house is not big enough to have

ia
one. The children go to the village school. I used to be a
teacher there but now I’m an office manager. I always ride my

er
bike to the office because it’s too far to walk. We go to a

at
restaurant every Saturday. I can cook but I don’t really enjoy
Alan (A) it.

M
e
My name’s Belinda. I’m 25 and I live with my parents in a large

pl
apartment. We don’t have a garden but we have a little dog
called Fred. The children who live next door often take Fred

m
to the park. I teach English at a school in the town centre. I
Sa
used to go to work by bike but now I walk there. On
Saturdays, I sometimes go to a restaurant with my friends. I
also enjoy making dinner for them at home.

Read the passage and answer all the questions. Awarded

Advait Kolarkar

Advait Kolarkar is six years old and he is already a world-famous artist. He first held a
paint brush when he was just eight months old. When he was one, he used food

l
colouring to paint his first picture. Advait doesn’t paint people, animals or things. He

ia
is an abstract painter. This means he paints different shapes like circles and squares to

er
make a picture. Advait’s parents love watching Advait use thick paint to make images.
They have never taught him how to paint.

at
M
Advait now lives in Canada, where the public can see his paintings at his local art
gallery. Before that, his paintings were in an art show in his country of birth, India. In

e
2018, Artexpo New York invited Advait to show his amazing paintings. All of the other

pl
artists at this event were much older than Advait. Helen Bridgeo visited this show. She

m
loved the bright colours in his work. She didn’t have enough money to buy all of his 20
Sa
paintings, so she chose nine of her favourites. Since then, Advait has sold another 38
paintings around the world.
ns

‘Advait loves painting at the moment,’ say his parents, ‘but maybe that will change
io

when he’s older. Perhaps he’ll go to university and become a teacher or a scientist. We
just want him to do something he enjoys.’
