Chinstrap Penguins

There are 17 different types of penguin. One type has a narrow, black line under its chin.
This looks as if it is wearing a bike helmet on its head with a strap under its chin. This is
why biologists named it the Chinstrap penguin. There are around 13 million Chinstrap

penguins. The biggest group lives on the Deception Islands in Antarctica but you can often
find them in Argentina and Chile.

The baby chicks have soft, grey feathers. At about nine weeks old, they lose these and
grow stronger, adult feathers. These are black on their backs and heads, and white on

their faces and fronts. When they are three months old, their parents leave them. Then
