Executive Summary

This report contains information regarding the User Testing process for Ella Schnittger’s

instructional video “How to Create Your Own Playlist on Spotify.” Testing found that the video

was informative and straightforward but could benefit from some audio changes.

Goals

To measure the usability of Ella Schnittger’s instructional video.

Methodology

Participant was given a laptop with the instructional video open. They were asked to bring their

own laptop, download and install Spotify, and open it on their own screen. They were asked to

watch the video and follow along with the instructions on their own laptop, pausing when

needed.

Participant Profile

20, female, college student. Uses music streaming services regularly but not specifically Spotify

(Participant is an Apple Music user.)

Task Tested

The participant was asked to create a Spotify playlist by following the instructions laid out in the

instructional video.

Post-Test Questions

Q: Did you find this instructional video useful and easy to follow?

A: Yes, but I also think the task it is based on is fairly simple and intuitive.

Q: What are some changes you would suggest making to this instructional video?

A: A voiceover with instructions might be more effective than just silence in the background. It

would also make it easier to follow.

Results

Participant completed the task without setbacks or confusion. Participant found that the

instructional video was useful and easy to follow. Participant did not need to pause the video as

the participant felt the video left enough time between each instruction to allow the participant to

complete the task. Participant noted that they did not really find the video necessary because the

task at hand was already quite intuitive. Participant recommended inserting a voiceover with

instructions or background music instead of having silence in background of the video.

Video would be more helpful if it utilized voiceover with instruction.
