What role do infographics play in driving change projects?

Infographics are important visuals in communication because they offer simplified

representations of what would initially appear complex to understand. In everyday life,

infographics can be used to initiate change processes in different disciplines. Murray et al (2017)

affirms that pie charts, bar graphs and line graphs are used to present information in a more

engaging way. To attain sustainable transformations, leaders require proper and explicit

documentation that offer detailed guidelines, policies and procedures expected of a particular

audience. Visuals such as infographics offer a more appealing form of communication, where

people can easily obtain the crucial elements of a given transformational management process. It

is easier to understand information presented visually than if it existed in audio or a simple text

(Scott et al., 2016).

How can they help communicate complex ideas and data in a more engaging and accessible

way to stakeholders?

Infographics have been found to add more value since they are engaging and present a

better opportunity for any audience to retain the information being passed. According to

Smiciklas (2012) the ability to process and retain information is greater when utilizing visual

forms of communication. This is a concept that has existed for hundreds of years. For instance,

in medical science, Florence Nightingale proved that presenting information with graphics

improves understanding. She developed a graphical representation of the cause of mortality

during the Crimean war, where she established that many soldiers died from preventable

diseases, compared to other causes such as gunshot wounds (Murray et al., 2017). People are

more likely to learn and understand from what they see, than what they hear. Thus, visual

expressions are effective than text-based instructions and can help communicate complex ideas

and data in a more engaging and accessible way to stakeholders.
