Pupils: No mam

What do we do then: We will help them.

Teacher: Fantastic answer!

Now, are you ready class?

 Teacher distributes the envelopes to the group

(Pupils perform the activity)

( Let pupils post their output on the board and the
reporter of each group will report their output in front of
the class)

Reporting of Outputs

Teacher: Ok let us examine the report of group 1 based on

the rubrics given.

Same procedure was done to the rest of the groups.

Teacher: I have observe that some groups were not

listening to the group reporting here in front. Again, what
did our classroom tell us?

Pupils: Listen attentively

Value Infusion:
 How do you find the activity?
 Did you follow the rules while doing the activity?
 Was following directions helped your group do the
task right?
 What do you think is the secret that you succeeded
in your activity?
Pupils: Because we help each other
Because we listen to our teammates ideas and
consider them

Teacher: Very well said! How about a round of applause fo

all of us.

presentation while also using real objects)

So what is a label? The word label is also a borrowed Modeled and supported
word in Bisaya but it is pronounced differently as “label”. colleagues in the proficient
Example, label sa pagkaon or in Filipino pwede nating use of Mother Tongue,

and culture. (PPST 1.6.3)
- Tag, signage, description etc.
Diba kung mopalit ta sa grocery store daun kuyog atong
mama niya dili sya kaklaro moana c mama “Nak, basaha
gud ang tag or ang label”

Label contains information about the product on its

container, packaging, or in the product itself. It also has
warning signs in it. Just like cough syrup. It provides us
pieces of important information for us to observe and
follow.

Ok now, let’s look closely.

Expiration date or the Best Before Seal

- refers to the last day, month, and year a food or
medicine should be consumed or a product be used
before it becomes rotten, damaged, or ineffective.

Teacher: Can you tell me the expiration date of this

product?

Pupil: The expiration date of that product is January 1,

2021

Teacher: Very good! Meaning, beyond that date, this

product should not be taken anymore as it could
be potentially harmful to the one who took it.
Sometimes store owners missed to get rid of
expired products that are why consumers or
buyers should be responsible also in looking at
the labels.

John Mark: Ma’am what if I happen to buy an expired Developed and applied
product? Can I return that to the store? effective teaching strategies
to promote critical and
Teacher: What a very good question John Mark. We will creative thinking, as well as

What is consumer health? areas. (PPST 1.1.3)
- Consumer health refers to the wellbeing of individual
purchasing health products and services. It involves
wise decision making skills and right attitudes in order
to protect oneself from wrong health products,
information, and services.

Ang consumer health ay may mga components kung

tawagin. Isa na dito ay ang Consumer rights. Alam niyo

isa sa mga karapatan na ito ay ang Right to Safety. Dapat

sakaling ang nabigay sa’yo na produkto ay expired o
lampas na sa natatakdang araw nang pag ubos nito, may
karapatan kang isauli at mapalitan ng bago ang iyong
binili.

Manufacture Date
- refers to the date the product was produced.

Teacher: Can you tell me the manufacture date of this

product?

Pupil: The manufacture date of that product is November

1, 2019

Storage Condition
- refers to the condition specified for storing the product
- examples are temperature and humidity

Teacher: What specific temperature is recommended for

storage of this product?

Pupil: Temperatures nor exceeding 30o C

Teacher: That’s great! Modeled effective

(Within) across curriculum teaching
areas. (PPST 1.1.3)
Storing medicines properly can help us ensure that they
work effectively.

Question: What do think will happen if this medicine is

stored in a very high temperature?
Answer: The medicine might be damaged and will not be
good for consumption anymore.
Developed and applied
Althea: But Ma’am why is that so? effective teaching strategies
to promote critical and
Teacher: That’s very good that you ask. Now, can anyone creative thinking, as well as
help Althea answer that question? other higher-order thinking
skills. (PPST 1.5.3)
James: Because the medicine is not intended for very high
temperature. The effect of it might be affected.

Teacher: That’s a very good answer James.

You know class, certain materials change if applied with
heat or when a change in temperature occurs. And these
change could cause harm to the one consuming it. It does
not only happen to food but also with other materials. That
is why we should be observant with the labels to prevent
danger.

Indication
- it is used to describe the effect on the patient of a
particular drug
-

Teacher: In this label, what does the indication tell?

Pupil: It tells that the medicine is for treatment and

prevention of bronchial asthma, bronchitis, emphysema
and acute dyspnea

Dosage and Administration

- refers to the prescribed amount of drug or agent and
prescribed amount of intervals

Teacher: So let’s examine the label. Example, children 6-

12 years old will take 5ml of this medicine 2-3 times a
day.

Question: What about children aged 2-5 years?

Pupil: Children 2-5 years old will take 2.5 ml 3 times a

day.

Teacher: awesome! we should follow the dosage so that

the medicine will effectively work as expected.

Direction for Use

- refers to the explanation of the main direction on how
the product must be handled.

Teacher: It says here, Shake well before you open.

There are also other pieces of information that can be seen

in some food products. Examples are:

- tells what nutrients are in the food, usually based on

official nutritional rating systems

Understanding the Nutrition Facts label on food items can

help you make healthier choices. The label breaks down
the amount of calories, carbs, fat, fiber, protein, and
vitamins per serving of the food, making it easier to
compare the nutrition of similar products.

Ok, now we will look at the product we have here and let
us check its nutritional value.

- the list where all ingredients are listed

On food labels, the ingredient list must contain all

ingredients including those that make up compound
ingredients.

Let’s try to read the ingredient list of the product we have.

- the label where major food allergen that is used in
making the food is written.

Example: Contains wheat, milk, and soy

In the mayonnaise a while ago, the group three have

listed an allergy warning. It says “contains eggs”

All these information are important to be observed and

considered specially that these are to be taken or
swallowed. We all must make sure the things we eat are
safe and does not harm us. Modeled effective
applications of content
Explains the importance of consumer health knowledge within and
H6CH-IVa-13 across curriculum teaching
areas. (PPST 1.1.3)
All these information are also seen in the labels because it
is the right of the consumer to be informed. Bilang isang
consumer may karapatan tayong malaman ang
katotohanan sa lahat ng produktong ating bibilhin. Dahil
kung hindi, we have the right to redress. May karapatan
tayong humingi ng danyos sa mga produktong hindi
inaasahang makakasama sa atin.

Teacher: Now class, is it important to read product labels?

Why?

Answer: Yes mam, because it give us the information

about the product and prevent us from harm.

Teacher, Again, what are the product labels we need to

know? Can we name them?

Elaborate Answer: Expiry date, manufacture date, dosage,

ingredients, storage instruction, directions for use,
nutrition facts, allergen warning

That was awesome! We did it! Now it’s time to mopve

forward to another adventure, it’s activity time!

But before that, I would like to remind you again of our

rules in groupwork.
We should work with :
Love, care, and respect.
Everybody let us sing our teamwork song.
“What’s gonna work, teamwork, what’s gonna work,
teamwork!
