Mid - Year Report 2022

Guide to reading this report-Years 9-10
This report provides you with: the name of the course, the name of the subject teacher, detail about the student’s learning
habits, an indication of the student’s level of engagement in their learning and an indication of where they sit on the
curriculum levels.

Learning Engagement / Te Whakaanga Akoranga

This will be indicated as either improvement needed, engaged or highly engaged.
Improvement needed: this indicates that there are barriers to the student’s learning. This could be poor attendance or
lateness, off-task behaviour, or an issue with willingness to settle into work and use class time well. It may also indicate
that there is an issue with incomplete homework or being prepared for learning with the appropriate equipment and
materials.
Engaged: this indicates that the student is generally an active participant in their learning and comes to class prepared
with learning materials and equipment. The student is usually up to date with course work and homework, and they are
able to settle into work.
Highly engaged: this indicates that the student is a highly active participant in their learning. This may include; asking
questions, independently seeking challenges and solutions, and applying themselves to the task at hand. They come to
class prepared with learning materials and equipment and complete course work and homework to enrich their
learning.

Learning Habits / Ngā Tikanga Akoranga

This section provides an indication of the type of learning that students have been engaged with. Comments may relate to
a particular topic, theme or task. The comment may reflect the student’s strengths with the key competencies of learning
appropriate to the subject and indicate areas where the student could focus their attention to improve learning outcomes.

Learning and Curriculum Progress / Te Ahu Whakamua Akoranga, Marautanga hoki

This diagram shows how curriculum levels typically
relate to years at school. You can see that a student in
Year 9-10 would generally be working at level 4-5 of
the curriculum. This may vary from subject to subject
for a student and some students may not fit this
pattern at all. They include those with special learning
needs, those who are gifted, and those who come
from non-English-speaking backgrounds. Students
learning an additional language are also unlikely to
follow the suggested progression; level 1 is the entry
level for those with no prior knowledge of the
language being learned, regardless of their school year
and this is reflected in the curriculum range indicated
in the Languages report.
The expected curriculum level that a student has been
assessed against may be indicated as a single level in
some subject reports such as Social Science and
Science. * A Year 9 student should be working at Curriculum Level 4
* A Year 10 student should be working at Curriculum Level 5
