Lesson Presentation
Introduction Alright friends, next we are going to read a story about a farm,
but this is no ordinary farm, this farm has animals that know
how to type! How many of you have a pet at home or know
someone who has a pet? Do you think they know how to type?
Let us read and see why Farmer Brown’s animals need to type!
Sequence of activities -Introduction
including assessments -Read story aloud to students
-Formative assessment ask questions throughout the book
-What do we know so far? What did the cows want? Also
questions like What is typewriter, or what does go on strike
mean.
- Next, Friends, you will choose one of three activities to
complete relating to the story we just read. I am going to list all
the options then dismiss each group of desks to come up and
grab your supplies. The first activity you could choose is writing
a newspaper article. You must write at least 2-3 paragraphs. In
this article tell me about the breaking news as to what is
happening at Farmer Browns, be creative. The second option is
choosing any farm animal you want and writing a letter from the
animal’s point of view to Farmer Brown. This should be three
paragraphs and include an introduction, body, and conclusion.
The last options, write a 2-3 paragraph summary and draw a
scene from the book. Once you have completed your
assignment, be sure you have your name at the top then turn it
into the bin. Next you can choose one of the other 2 activities or
read your chapter book from the library.
Lesson Wrap-up Can I have a couple of people read what they wrote? (one or two
from each activity)
