Introduction Estimated Time: 1 hour start at 10:00 am

Students will rotate between three stations to absorb new knowledge about adding and
subtracting fractions as well as test their skills. The group with the lowest previous test scores
will start with the teacher directed activity. The group with the average previous test scores
will start with the collaborative work period the group with the highest previous test scores
will start with independent digital content. Each group will spend 20 minutes on the
particular station and then rotate so that Group One will then move on to the collaborative
work group 2 will then move on to The online content. Finally group three will move on to
the teacher directed small group. The last round of these stations will be each group going to
the only station they have not gone to yet.

Students will each start out
with a white board and the
teacher will display one
problem at a time for each
student to complete. The
teacher will adapt to Student
responses in terms of how
she addresses right and
wrong answers. If anyone
answers a question wrong,
they will stop the activity and
explain to the group the
proper way to do it. They will
do this for the first 10
minutes, and then we'll be
given a short worksheet to
complete and to compare
answers with each other
when they are each finished.
If there are any wrong
answers on the worksheet
the teacher will address
those as well.
The collaborative work will
consist of one worksheet that
has a front and back.
Students can choose which
partners they work with that
are also in their group and
work together to complete
the worksheet. Worksheets
will be collected and graded,
however these grades will
not go in the grade book they
will be strictly for assessment
purposes and for the teacher
to determine if any more
instruction needs to be given.
Independent digital content
will consist of 20 minutes on
the math learning platform
IXL. IXL Is a learning platform
that adapts to each given
answer and gets either easier
or harder depending on how
the student is improving.
Each student should already
have an IXL account as well
as the teacher who can log in
to collect student reports
later. On IXL students can
earn points based off of how
many questions they get
right and the questions get
progressively harder if they
continue to get questions
right. This website helps
students gain feedback on
certain problems they may
have trouble with as well as
perfect their skills of adding
and subtracting fractions

by the end of this activity students should have a better understanding of adding and
subtracting fractions and should feel confident enough to take a quiz or take home a
homework assignment to complete for a grade.
