Phonation/vowel activity

- Starting at middle c, teacher will model the exercise singing “How are you” sliding between Do
and Fa.
o How (do) are (fa) you (do)
- Class will sing this walking down from the key of CM to the key of GM, then up from the key of
CM (c4) to the key of CM (c5)
- This exercise is meant to help the students ready their voices by sliding between the two notes
to help them wake up all of their range. The split in the second half is meant to help prepare
them for singing different harmonies.

Diction Activity

- Teacher will model the Bumble Bee exercise for the class.
- Teacher will model it again slowly in two chunks (up the scale then down) with the class
repeating after her.
- Once the class is comfortable with the exercise, they will continue moving up keys while also
increasing the tempo of the exercise.
- This exercise is meant to engage the students mouth muscles and help them with their diction.
Pronouncing an explosive “B” sound.

Focus activity

- Next, teacher will model chunks to the class:

o “My bonnie lies over the sea”
o “My bonnie lies over the ocean”
o “So bring back my bonnie to me”
o “Bring back, bring back, oh bring back my bonnie to me to me” x2
- When the class is able to sing the song without assistance all the way through, teacher will sing
the song and model themselves sitting down or standing up every time they sing a word starting
with a “B”.
o If you start the song standing up, you will end standing. If you start the song sitting, you
will end sitting.
- The purpose of this exercise is to”
o Wake the students up and get their body engaged in the singing.
