Practice Lesson Plan

Objective:

Students will sing the melody of “Mary Had a Little Lamb” in tune.

Procedure:

1. Instructor will say “Listen closely and then repeat after me.”
2. Instructor will sing “mi re do re mi mi mi” on “doo doo,” pause and repeat.
3. Students will echo as instructor listens (checking for tonality).
4. Instructor will sing “mi re do re mi mi mi, re re re, mi sol sol” on “doo doo,”
(adding second half), pause and repeat.
5. Students will echo as instructor listens.
6. Instructor will sing “mi re do re mi mi mi mi re re mi re do” on “ doo doo,” pause
and repeat.
7. Students will echo as instructor listens.
8. Instructor will sing entire melody on “doo doo.”
9. Students will echo back, instructor will listen, checking for students struggling.

Informal Assessment:

1. Instructor will be careful to listen to students throughout the entire exercise.

2. After the students learn the song, the instructor will split class in half (or smaller
sections such as instrument), asking which section thinks they can perform for
the others.
3. Each section of students will perform as a group; if one group is struggling,
instructor will sing the song for them again while they listen and then have them
try again.
