Design Problem:

The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) is a state university established
on August 16, 2016, by virtue of Republic Act 10919 through the amalgamation of the Mindanao University
of Science and Technology (MUST) in Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental and the Misamis Oriental
State College of Agriculture and Technology (MOSCAT) in Claveria, Misamis Oriental. It is located in
Northern Mindanao, the Gateway to Mindanao, which offers a strategic locational advantage for the
institution to train and develop students from all the other regions. Adhering to its general mandate to
primarily provide advanced education; higher technological, professional, and advanced instruction;
and advanced research and extension work, required for global competitiveness, the University
envisions becoming a nationally recognized S&T University providing the vital link between education
and the economy. As the university fulfills this mandate, it moves from within its immediate context and
toward its larger international environment, as the first and only national university of science and
technology in the country. In pursuit of continued excellence, the university has recently acquired a
parcel of land for the construction of a new science and technology building. The aim is to provide
state-of-the-art facilities that promote research, collaboration, and the advancement of knowledge in
science and technology disciplines. Furthermore, the university is unwavering in its commitment to
sustainability and environmental responsibility, prioritizing eco-conscious practices and initiatives
throughout its operations to minimize ecological impact and contribute to a greener, more sustainable
future. As a newly licensed architect and a proud product of USTP, you are tasked to be the principal
architect for this proposed project adher4eing to the following objectives and constraints:

Objectives:

1. Architectural Design:
Develop an architectural design for the science and technology building that fosters a collaborative
and inspiring environment for researchers, students, and faculty. Consider the optimal layout, spatial
organization, and aesthetics that align with the university's vision.
2. Laboratory Facilities:
Design cutting-edge laboratory spaces equipped with advanced technology and infrastructure to
support a variety of scientific disciplines. Prioritize flexibility and adaptability to accommodate evolving
research needs.
3. Technology Integration:
Explore innovative ways to integrate technology into the building, such as smart building systems, IoT
(Internet of Things) applications, and advanced audiovisual facilities in lecture halls and collaborative
spaces.
4. Sustainability Features:
Incorporate sustainable design principles and technologies to minimize the environmental impact of
the building. This could include energy-efficient systems, renewable energy sources, water conservation
measures, and eco-friendly construction materials.
5. Collaborative Spaces:
Design common areas and collaborative spaces that encourage interdisciplinary interaction and
knowledge-sharing among students and researchers. Consider flexible workspaces, meeting rooms,
and communal areas.
6. Accessibility and Inclusivity:
Ensure that the building is accessible to individuals with diverse abilities. Implement inclusive design
features to create an environment that accommodates people of varying needs.
7. Safety and Compliance:
Design the building in compliance with safety standards and regulations. Consider emergency
response systems, laboratory safety protocols, and other measures to ensure the well-being of
occupants.
