1.0 OBJECTIVE
The objective of this method statement is to inform the consultants and the client
the relevant methods and procedures that Sanken Construction (Pvt.) Ltd. shall
follow for the bending and fixing of reinforcement and to ensure all engineers and
workers at the site are following the well-defined and safe methods and procedures.

2.0 INTRODUCTION
This document mainly outlines the work methods at different stages involved in
bending and fixing of steel reinforcement. Flow chart of reinforcement work has
been illustrated in a figure-5.1. Furthermore, brief description on work procedure of
reinforcement has been given in the latter part of the report. Basic health and safety
needs are also mentioned in the final stage.

WMS FOR REINFORCEMENT WORK

6.0 PROCEDURE

6.1. Re-bar drawings & Bar bending schedule

Re-bar drawings will be prepared as per structural drawings for construction and bar
bending schedule as per the re- bar drawings. Following items in the re-bar drawings
& bar bending schedule will be checked.

a. Collation with structural drawings for construction

b. Anchorage length
c. Lap splices length/location
d. Degree/ shape of hook

6.2. Cutting and bending

Cutting and bending will be carried out at bar bending yard as per cutting/ bending
schedule. Once the bending is finished relevant sets will be tagged for easy
identification, and then delivered to site. The typical identification tag is shown
below

Figure 5.1: Sample Tag

6.3. Storage of steel reinforcement

Rebar which are delivered from yard shall be placed in a shed off-site and will be
fully covered by plastic sheets to avoid contacting with rain water during the storage
period

5
WMS FOR REINFORCEMENT WORK

6.4. Installation of Reinforcement

The installation work shall be executed in accordance with structural drawings and
technical specifications. During and after installation following items will be checked
With the structural drawings.
• Number of bars and interval • Lap splice location
• Whether the bar type is correct (Diameter) • Covering
• Anchorage length • Interval of spacers
• Lap splice length

6.5 Protective cover for steel bars

Adequate minimum covers for the reinforcement will be provided as per the
construction issued structural drawings.

7.0 QUALITY ASSURANCE / INSPECTIONS AND TESTING / SAFETY PLAN

of grade B500B (BS4449/2009 and SLS 375:2009) and Grade fy= 250 N/mm2
plain round steel bars (BS4449/2005), will be used.
➢ Cover blocks
Fiber reinforced cover blocks shall be used as protective cover for the
reinforcement with a similar grade of concrete.
7.2 Inspection
➢ Inspection of reinforcement shall be carried out by Consultant Engineer with the
Site engineer of as per the standards and specifications.
➢ Check lists reports will be provided to the site engineer. Inspection check lists are
attached. (Annexure A)
➢ Test report and steel mill certificates are attached. (Annexure B)

7.3 Safety Plan

➢ All dangerous areas must be barricaded
➢ Safe plat-forms for working at higher levels shall be placed and secured.
➢ Safety Guard rails shall be provided along the perimeter.
➢ All the electrical wires and sockets are placed in such a way that it will be
covered so that it will conform to safety regulations.
