One of the first and most basic concepts related to motion is that of distance and
displacement. Distance refers to the total amount of ground covered by an
object, while displacement refers to the change in position of an object from its
initial position to its final position. This concept is fundamental to understanding
the motion of objects, as it allows us to measure and track their movements.
When it comes to motion, there are three fundamental laws that govern the
behavior of objects. These are Newton’s laws of motion, which were formulated
by Sir Isaac Newton in the 17th century. According to these laws, an object will
remain at rest or in uniform motion unless acted upon by an external force
(Newton’s first law), the rate of change of momentum of an object is directly
proportional to the applied force (Newton’s second law), and for every action,
there is an equal and opposite reaction (Newton’s third law). These laws provide
a framework for understanding how objects move and interact with each other.
