INTRODUCTION
Yb containing intermetallic compounds, exhibit unusual electronic and Crystal structure of compounds
magnetic effects, for example superconductivity, intermediate valence, Yb28Pd50In22 and Yb16.67Pd50In33.33
heavy fermion (HF) behavior, Kondo effect and quantum phase
transitions [1], owing to the hybridization between rare earth f electrons
and conduction electrons of transition or p-block elements.
Main motivation for studying the Yb-Pd-In system is derived from above
two factors and the interesting physical properties already observed in Pd(In,Yb)
the compounds Yb2Pd2In [2,3] and YbPd2In: specific heat jump at T ≈ 250
mK and increase in magnetic entropy at high temperature by application
of magnetic field (magnetocaloric effect) [4].
Present work describes the isothermal section at 600 oC of the Yb-Pd-In YbPdIn2
system including the range of compositions (Pd ≤ 60 at. %) with the
purpose of searching new intermetallic compounds having interesting
properties. Refined xrd pattern of Yb10Pd50In40. inset shows
the formation of (111) peak in ordered
