The social setting in which people are reared and the ways in which culture influences
conduct are referred to as the cultural context. It includes shared attitudes and taught
values that people develop as a group. It encompasses norms, language, practices, ideas,
and beliefs.

10. How can you be so sure that sociolinguistic knowledge must be integrated in language
teaching?

They put more of an emphasis on teaching vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation in


second- or foreign-language classes (speaking). Sociolinguistics-based language instruction
can aid speakers in making sense of where, to whom, and when they are speaking. In order
to relate the materials to social contexts, the teacher should do so.
