CPB40003 INTRODUCTION OF RENEWABLE ENERGY
OPTIMAL AND SUSTAINABLE: RENEWABLE ENERGY REVAMP

Introduction:
In Malaysia, we currently using coal, oil (petroleum), and natural gas for most of our energy
consumption; however, these fossil fuels are exhaustible and can give negative impacts towards
Earth’s climate and the environment.
However, in order to shift from fossil fuels with a cleaner and renewable sources, the
implementation of these renewable energy resources are limited by factors like geographical
condition, climate change, and cost. Therefore, the question is, how do we deal with these
limitations?

Instructions:
In your group, design a RENEWABLE ENERGY PLAN to overcome the challenges of
implementing them in Malaysia.
1. Select a STRATEGIC LOCATION that has the potential to develop a renewable energy
plant.
2. Do the FEASIBILITY STUDIES in terms of
i. Total land required
ii. Costing of the plant to be build
iii. Justifications on the type of renewable resources that has been selected.
3. With a MAP, show and explain the suitability of your RENEWABLE ENERGY PLAN
that meets all of the geographical constraints.
4. Select the COMBINATION OF RENEWABLE ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES that can
provide constant and reliable of energy (electricity) source to that area.
Prepare a complete FULL REPORT consisting of:
1. Introduction: Strategic location
2. Feasibility Studies
3. Renewable Energy Plan: Overcome the limitations
4. Renewable Energy Technologies
5. Conclusion

Mini Project

Focus Questions
1. Why do we want to replace fossil fuels with renewable energy sources to power our cities?
2. What does it mean to ‘optimize’ something, like a plan or solution? What kind of tools can
we use to solve an optimization problem efficiently?
3. What are the benefits and drawbacks of different renewable energy technologies?

Tips and Hints

1. Remember that some renewable energy sources like the wind and sun are intermittent,
meaning that they aren’t necessarily available all the time. You might not want to rely
solely on intermittent energy sources!
2. You can use any combination of renewable energy sources as long as they meet the outlined
conditions and you can justify your choices with logical explanations.
