PUNCTUATION

• Punctuation marks help us understand what we read.


• Capital letters
(i) The first letter of the first word in a sentences is always a capital letter.
Example :
The elephant is a large animal

(ii) Proper nouns begin with a capital letter


Examples :
Mohamad, Kota Kinabalu, Sunday, Jalan
Kenangan

(iii) The pronoun I is always a capital letter.


(iv) Examples :
My father and I go jogging every
evening.
I love cake.

• Full stops
We end a sentence with a full stop.
Example :
I have a big
family.

• Question marks
We end a question with a question mark.
Examples :
Do you have a ruler?
Who is that woman?

• Commas
A comma separates items in a list.
Examples :
My mother bought a chicken, some eggs, vegetable and
fish.

• Exclamation marks
We use an exclamation mark at the end of greetings, wishes or exclamations.
Examples :
Hi! Congatulations! Happy New Year!
Ouch!
