What triggers your fears?
How do you overcome
your fears?
The fear of public speaking is the most
common phobia ahead of death, spiders,
or heights. The National Institute of Mental
Health reports that public speaking
anxiety, or glossophobia, affects about
40%* of the population. The underlying
fear is judgment or negative evaluation by
others. Public speaking anxiety is
considered a social anxiety disorder.
When thinking about
speaking in public,
I freeze up.
My mouth becomes dry
and my voice feels weak,
just at the thought of
speaking in public.
The palms of my hands feel
sweaty at the thought of
giving a public speech.
When giving a speech,
I talk as fast as possible.
I even exclude important
things that I was going
to say, just to get it
over with.
I have trouble falling
asleep the night
before a speech.
