2 Sampling (PPAR*)
I Introduction

In the SQMS, you generally sample the parts that you are to manufacture or supply. Parts from upstream suppliers are not included in the parts list (but
are included as an attachment).
If Daimler AG specifies a supplier for which Daimler AG assumes responsibility for sampling in accordance with the price agreement or directed parts
contract, you also have to sample this supplier's parts.
For more information on this, see Section 2.8.6 "Special Features of Directed Parts".
If you yourself are a supplier of directed parts for which Daimler AG assumes responsibility for sampling in accordance with the price agreement or
directed parts contract, please also read Section 2.8.6 "Special Features of Directed Parts".

The sampling form that you select depends

1 on your supplier relationship with Daimler
AG.

Choose "ZB-/LU-/Component sampling" if

you plan to supply the parts to be sampled
1 directly to Daimler AG (as per the delivery
agreement) during series production.

Choose "Directed parts sampling" if you plan

to supply the parts to be sampled to a
different supplier of Daimler AG (as per the
price agreement) during series production.

H Special rules apply if you supply or install

directed parts for which Daimler AG, as per
the price agreement / directed parts
contract, assumes responsibility for
sampling. These rules and further information
about directed parts can be found in Section
2.8.6 "Special Features of Directed Parts".

1 Choose the sampling type.

H You cannot combine different sampling types

in one PPAR, which is why you have to create
one PPAR for each sampling type.
You can use the part quality history (see
section 2.8.5 "Part Quality History") to check
1 whether a part has already been sampled.
Color sampling can also be carried out if no
valid Q-status has yet been set for the
relevant detail number. This means that
technical sampling has not yet been carried
out in the SQMS for any color part in the
parts family (see section 2.2.4 "Selecting the
Sampling Type"). In this case, call your QM
contact at Daimler AG.
Important:
If you want to sample parts and any
associated software (e.g. flashware), read
Section 2.8.7 "Sampling of Software" first.

The sampling reasons in Release 4.1 have got specific, directing functions for the calculation of the new part change status in
the current PPAR.
You find an overview on the following page.

Kindly note the aspects below:

• To send a PPAR with the same Q/F-status to another Daimler plant, you have to copy that PPAR which originally
used this Q/F-status. Please use the copy function Q.
The sampling reason „further Daimler plant“ is no longer available.

• With the “report other samples “ the E-status is further freely selectable.

• For software the only possible sampling reason is “new part” with the Q001/F000-status.

• The new sampling reason „Complementary sampling” is the normally used for the respective sampling to a
technical sampling with the sampling reasons „New part“, „Production relocation“ or „additional production plant“.

The cover sheet contains various possible

H decisions for each listed part. The decisions
are structured according to a hierarchy,
whereby the "worst" decision on a hierarchy
level is "inherited" to the next highest level
(see the next slide).

Possible decisions and their priority rating:

G = Green (unconditional SDR*)

Y = Yellow (conditional SDR)
R = Red (no SDR)
- = No decision
L = Invalid
B = Ready for sampling
U = Circulating
H X = Sampling canceled
N = Other samples

G > Y means:
"green" is a better decision than "yellow".

The following applies:

G > Y > R > - > L > (B, U, X, N)
*SDR = Series delivery release

H
Once you have submitted your PPAR to
H Daimler AG, the sampling capability is
checked first (completeness/scope of
documentation, quantity and type of sample
components etc.).

If the result of this check is positive, the

status is set to "Ready for sampling". The
various specialist verifications are then
assigned and carried out at Daimler AG.

If the PPAR contains glaring errors or

omissions, the procedure is assigned the
status Not ready for sampling. The PPAR is
then posted to your ToDo list for further
processing. Daimler AG may have entered
remarks in the "Remarks" field.

Then re-submit the PPAR to Daimler AG (see

Section 2.5.1 ff. "Triggering the Release").

H H Once the sampling pass is complete, the

PPAR is assigned the status "Decided".

If the SDR has the status "yellow" (Y) or "red"

(R), you have to create either a new PPAR or a
"new version" of the existing PPAR. The
following rule applies here:

New Q-/F-status required

 new PPAR
You can potentially simplify this step by
copying an existing PPAR (see Section 2.8.2
"Copying the PPAR").

No new Q-/F-status required

 Additional sampling (" new version")

Process flow for additional sampling:

1. Call up the PPAR with the status
H "Decided".
2. Create a new version (see Section 2.7.3).
3. Modify/edit the PPAR.
4. Submit the PPAR to the original plant.
5. Copy the shipping information from the
previous version (see Section 2.5.3).

E If sampling is to be carried out for additional

variants of parts that have already been
sampled (new colors), you have to carry out
color sampling for each new color (see
Section 2.2.4 "Selecting the Sampling Type").
You also have to apply the current decision
from technical sampling to the new variants.

Choose technical sampling for the part with

1 the highest Q-status and the status
"Decided" and click "New version" in the
action bar. In this case, the SQMS
automatically adds the new parts variants
(colors) to the parts bundle in your PPAR.

H Submit the new version / new color samples

to the same plant to which you submitted the
previous version. Copy the shipping
information from the previous version (see
Section 2.5.3 "Specifying Shipping
Information").

11. Additional Sampling with Assigned Directed Parts

Additional sampling is required if you have received a sampling report with
SDR = yellow (Y) or red (R) and do not need to raise the Q- or F-status for
the further processing (see Section 2.7.2 "SDR = Yellow (Y) or Red (R)").

If your sample contains assigned directed parts, these can be changed

during additional sampling provided that certain conditions have been
fulfilled.
