Possible point #2: Better mental health helps in academic life and be more

successful in our careers → better life quality

First, In spite of having good mental health impacts our strength, having good physical
health impacts more aspects of our lives.
- When you have good physical health you will have both good physical strength
and well-being and you can do both manual work and other work effectively.
However, it is not sure that having good mental health results in having enough
physical strength to do manual labor work effectively.
- According to Harvard Business Review, there was a study on a group of
Approximately 200 employees from the UK and China to discover the effects of
doing exercises on work outcomes. It was shown that the group having good
physical health worked more efficiently than the group that didn’t.
- Judge, if we don’t focus on our physical health, it can affect our work outcomes,
which in turn hurts our mental health.
Second, ONLY GOOD MENTAL HEALTH CAN NOT IMPROVE OUR LIFE QUALITY
- Only mental health cannot improve your grades and study, you need to have
motivation and goals to achieve a flying color score. Also in your career, you
cannot only feel happy, with a smile on your face every day you go to work to
get a promotion, but you have to have better physical health, goals, and
motivation to work harder
- The Harvard Study of Adult Development is a well-known longitudinal study
that underscores the significance of social connections for a fulfilling life.
- Studies consistently show a positive correlation between physical health and
overall well-being. For instance, the World Health Organization (WHO)
emphasizes the importance of physical health in achieving a higher quality of
life.
- Research proves that people with “goals in their heads” turn out to be 10 times
more successful than those with no goals.
- Judge, if we don’t focus on our careers and studies. We will not improve
ourselves and our life quality effectively to keep up with this always-changing
world. This results in mental health issues.

Possible point #1: Mental health participates in improving physical health

First, having good physical health will increase your life expectancy MORE THAN
having good mental health. You said that suicide causes many deaths but let’s compare.
- Poor physical health leads to many diseases with high mortality rates such as
cancer, and cardiovascular diseases... These diseases cause more deaths while
suicide only occurs in some people with the disease: depression or narcissism.
The percentage of deaths due to cancer is higher than the suicide rate.
- According to the Statistical table of the annual number of deaths by cause all
over the world, cancer, and cardiovascular diseases causes nearly 27 million
deaths. While suicide only causes nearly 1 million deaths.
- Judges, We must focus on our physical health because Physical health-related
diseases are seriously affecting the world's population
Second,
- Investing in physical health (exercise, healthy diet,...) because when we
suffer from a disease that is difficult to treat and will have long-term
effects, it means paying attention to our physical health will be more
important.
○ According to the Mental Health Foundation, having a long-term
physical condition can lead to social isolation, low self-esteem,
stigma, and discrimination. You may feel tired, frustrated, worried,
or stressed especially when dealing with pain, tests, treatments, or
flare-ups.
○ Preventing physical health issues may lead to fewer medical
interventions, hospitalizations, and ongoing treatments, ultimately
alleviating the financial burden on individuals and healthcare
systems.
○ → maintain happiness
Possible point 3: Cancer patients need mental health to suffer from the disease
Cancer patients also need to focus on their strengths first by eating a nutritious
diet, doing exercise
- Because, even though you have good mental health, you are unable to
suffer from a lot of chemical treatment if you don’t keep your physical
health.
- Evidence: According to Vinmec, Chemotherapy also weakens the body's
immune system. Patients who undergo cancer treatment with
chemotherapy may experience memory problems, such as cognitive
decline, difficulty in thinking, unable to concentrate, and prone to stress
and anxiety.
- Having physical health helps them live longer and have the ability to
suffer from chemical treatments
Possible point: Suicide in Japan (Although they have good physical health, they
still suicide a lot)
As you said, this also raises one more concern. You must focus on positive
relationships:
- Evidence: According to Statista, in 2022, there was nearly 3 thousand
suicide related to problems at work in Japan.
- Evidence: The present study investigated the suicidal ideation rate and
odds ratio of callers under 20 years of age with family problems to the
Japanese crisis hotline in 2012. There were 21.5% of calls related to family
problems.
- → these evidence show that Japanese who want to suicide are living in a
negative environment, where competition at work and school and high
expectations from parents become heavy pressures.
- Judge, we need to focus on positive relationships because a supportive
environment can provide a crucial foundation for mental well-being

QUESTION
1. In this state-of-the-art world, AI and machines are gradually replacing
people in some simple tasks. That means people need to do more
complex tasks, which take a long time to be done, maybe 8 hours 10
hours, or 12 hours, and a very wide range of knowledge. So without good
physical health and learning hard, how can we do these tasks?
2. Let's take a situation like you and I are standing on this stage debating. If
we have good mental health but do not have enough physical health, how
can we have the strength to argue with each other? And how can you
debate when your physical health is so poor that you're at risk of fainting
on stage?

I'm so powerful

Hello everyone, my name is Truong Ha My. I’m 16 years old. I am a

student at Long Thanh High School
To be honest, this í the third time that I have participated in LOTAEC’s
English-speaking contest. That means 3 years. However, this is the first
time that I have become one of the finalists. Of course, I was over the
moon. But do you wonder what has motivated me to be so persistent?
Let me tell you a story.
Before deciding to have my third time in this contest, I wondered a lot
and asked myself a lot of questions: Should I do this? Will people think I
am so “bold” to participate again? And will people laugh at me if I still
lose again??
I wavered a lot… Then I realized If I don't take part in this contest again
to try again, I WILL REGET IT
We are still young. We have time to try. We have to find out our best
version. We have to do things with our best determination and spirit to
not waste our youth.
You can see my quote is “ Don’t follow the star, be the star”
Each of us is a star. I am a star, a very little star but live with a big desire
to be shined
AND RIGHT NOW, I’m standing here, shining on this stage and making
Truong Ha My’s Identity!!!!
Thank you
