Homework 1 (Total: 5X20pts=100pts): Based on Chapter 9 (Sinusoidal Steady

State Analysis)
(grading emphasis will be given for showing all the derivation steps clearly)
Due on 10/17/2019
Q1: A sinusoidal voltage is given by the following expression:

𝑣(𝑡) = 100cos (1000𝜋𝑡 + 10. ) V

a) What is the period of the voltage?

b) What is the frequency in Hz?
c) What is the magnitude of v(t) at t = 1mS?
d) What is the r.m.s value of v(t)?

Q2: Find the “Phasor” and “Time Domain” expression of the followings:

a) 𝑣 = 200 cos(400𝑡 + 30. ) V

b) 𝑖 = [10 cos(120𝜋𝑡 + 30. ) + 5cos (120𝜋𝑡 − 30. )] A
c) 𝑉 = 20⟨−30. V
d) 𝐼 = [20⟨20. − 10⟨−10. ] mA

Q3: A 20W resistor is connected in parallel with a 26.5mH inductor. This parallel
combination is connected in series with a 5W resistor and a 132.6µF capacitor.

a) Calculate the impedance of this interconnection if the angular frequency is

377 rad/sec.
b) At what finite frequency does the impedance of the interconnection becomes
purely resistive? Find out the impedance (purely resistive) value.

Q4: Use source transformation to find the Thevenin equivalent circuit at the
terminals a, b of the circuit shown below:
