STATEMENT OF GENUINE PURPOSE TO STUDY IN AUSTRALIA TAKING GRADUATE

DIPLOMA OF MANAGEMENT (LEARNING)

Dear Respected Case Officer,

I am Kristina Joy Hufana Turco, a 33-year-old, law-abiding citizen of the Republic of the
Philippines holding Passport Number P3302400B. I am writing to provide you with a comprehensive
understanding of my motivations and aspirations behind my application for a Subclass 500 Student
Visa as a Genuine Temporary Entrant. I am glad to inform you that I have been accepted into the
Graduate Diploma of Management (Learning) at Salford College, Sydney Campus, located at
Shop 6, Ground Floor, 20-22 Maqauarie Street, Paramatta NSW 2150. The intake will
commence on October 02, 2023, and conclude on September 09, 2025.

I was born and raised in the province of La Union, Philippines. This laid-back coastal town is famous
for its surfing spots but what not a lot of people know is that it's also brimming with other natural and
heritage attractions and cultural activities like red clay pottery, grape picking, loom weaving, churches
for pilgrimage tours, waterfalls, and eco-tours. Nicknamed as the surfing capital of the Northern
Philippines, La Union is also known as the “Garden Coast” due to its bountiful botanical gardens.
My father, Bernardo Turco, passed away when I was young. My widowed mother, Winnie Turco, is a
64-year-old house planner who lives with me and helps me take care of my children. I have one
sibling, Keen Claude Evans H. Turco, who is a 29-year-old graphic designer. He also works at the
Provincial Government of La Union in the same office as me. He lives with us in 148 Dili
Subdivision, Dili, Bauang , La Union, Philippines.
I am in a de facto or live-in relationship with Jeffrey Aude Tadina Casuga, a 36-year-old businessman
who owns and operates “Aude’s Food Hub” in San Fernando City, La Union. We have been living
together since September 29, 2014, and were blessed with three children: Simsja Nuri, who is 8 years
old, and twins Namra Dee and Saigee Dee, who are 1 year old. My partner is not coming with me to
Australia because he has prior commitments to our children and business in the Philippines.

ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

During my early childhood education, I attended Lorma Grade School in La Union, Philippines, from
1997-2003. I was recognized as the youngest master of ceremonies in our school, able to host
programs and even graduation ceremonies. As an elementary student, I was an average student who
excelled in dancing, academics, and journalism. I continued my education at Lorma Special Science
High School in La Union, Philippines, from 2004-2007. For my tertiary education, I first took a
Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering and was an undergraduate from 2007-2010. Later on, I
pursued a second course in Bachelor of Science in Information and Technology and Associate in
Computer Technology at Lorma Colleges in San Fernando, La Union, from 2010-2014, graduating in
2014.

After graduation, my focus shifted to being a hands-on mom after learning of my pregnancy along
with my partner. I took care of my only child during her early years, and when she was ready for early
childhood education and independent in basic tasks, I started pursuing work experiences. In 2017, I
chose to apply for a position at the Provincial Government of La Union - Disaster Risk Reduction and
Management Office as a 911 Emergency Telecommunicator. Due to my technological skills and
knowledge, I passed the training under the Department of Interior and Local Government in the
Pilipinas 911 Emergency Telecommunicator Course of the International Academies of Emergency
Dispatch. From April 2017-2022, I got engaged with a diverse population of people seeking
assistance and immediate emergency response. In this manner, I developed my skills in quick
judgment, decision making and planning strategically where time and life are crucial.
In 2022, I was able to impart my technical writing skills and was transferred to the Research and
Planning Unit as a Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Assistant, where we were
tasked to formulate Disaster Plans for our Province. The Research and Planning Unit serves as the
core of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Department. The plans should be
crafted considering several factors that might be a hindrance or a contributing factor in the fulfilment
of the plan. Thus, being keen in scrutinizing the possibilities as well as analytical, logical and strategic
management of physical, financial and manpower resources are among the essential skills to bear in
this critical formulation of plans. Moreover, as we are tasked to do the Local Expenditure Plan of our
department, we have seen the plan and possibility of opening a managerial position for the Research
and Planning Unit yet to be proposed in the following budget year. Since the process of applying for a
position is not on an Offer Letter basis, the employee shall take the initiative to independently comply
with the qualifications of the said position.

PERSONAL CIRCUMSTANCES OR REASON TO PURSUE INTERNATIONAL STUDY

I am currently working as a Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Assistant at the
Provincial Government of La Union, and working in the government has provided me with a firsthand
view of the pressing issues and the immense responsibility involved in managing and addressing the
diverse needs of our people, places, and environment. This experience has deeply inspired me, as I
witnessed the mission of our organization to act as a catalyst for sustainable and inclusive
development, ultimately improving the quality of life for our citizens. I was able to discover my knack
for problem-solving, and disaster plan formulation skills where excellent strategy, analytical and
logical thinking will be a great advantage. Therefore, I have the need to hone and turn these skills into
my expertise to impart quality service to the best of my abilities. As such, the quality of education
Australia has to offer piqued my interest. Motivated by my passion for learning and my desire to
enhance my knowledge and skills in the field of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, I
have made the decision to pursue a Graduate Diploma of Management in Learning in Australia.
This field is rapidly growing in the Philippines due to the escalating frequency of natural disasters. I
firmly believe that by acquiring advanced knowledge and expertise in management, I will be able to
play an active role in mitigating the impact of natural disasters and fostering sustainable growth in the
Philippines, allowing me to make a meaningful difference in my community and contribute to the
progress of my nation.

WHY CHOOSE TO STUDY IN AUSTRALIA

As per the United Nations report, Australia has ranked as the second-best country in the world for its
excellent quality of life. In terms of world-class education, economic growth and standard of living, it
remains to be as one of the best countries. Australia has top-ranked institutions, globally recognized
qualifications, and an abundance of scholarships when it comes to education. Studying in Australia
provides a plethora of opportunities for students like me seeking an enriching and diverse academic
experience. With six of the world's top 100 universities and over 40 institutions offering a wide range
of academic programs, I can choose a program that aligns perfectly with my interests and academic
goals. In addition, certain academic institutes also provide students with internship opportunities,
giving students practical experience and the opportunity to gain valuable work skills. Thus, this shall
be a great avenue for me to indulge in a worry-free and high-quality education. The environment,
safety and the quality of education, professors and training offered are the biggest factors in the
realization of my end goal as I come back to the Philippines.

WHY NOT IN THE PHILIPPINES OR OTHER DEVELOPING COUNTRIES?

The K-12 curriculum is not new, but the Philippines is still in the early stages of implementing it. The
Filipino education system focuses on theoretical knowledge, while Australia and other countries
prioritize staying up-to-date and going beyond traditional teaching methods. There is a lack of
opportunities for acquiring theoretical knowledge in the Philippines, as short-term courses are not
readily available. Furthering education typically requires pursuing advanced degrees, which can be
time-consuming. Additionally, assessment methods in the Philippines heavily rely on exams, while
the Australian system emphasizes practical skills and includes projects, reasoning questions,
assignments, essays, seminars, and other components. After conducting extensive research on top
study destinations for international students, I have identified Australia as the most compelling choice
for pursuing my studies. Australia is the top choice for international students due to its excellent
education system, work experience programs, and strong regulations. It is more affordable than
Canada and the USA, with lower living expenses and tuition fees. Australia also has a lower crime
rate, making it safer for students. It offers a friendly and safe environment, especially for women, and
is close to the Philippines. Its multicultural society creates a welcoming atmosphere, and its
geographic location makes it convenient and cost-effective during school breaks. Overall, Australia
prioritizes education and personal well-being.

WHY CHOOSE A PARTICULAR CITY AS YOUR STUDY LOCATION?

I have chosen Sydney as my preferred destination for several compelling reasons. My decision to
study in Sydney has been strongly influenced by the fact that my aunt, Nely Assoutis resides in 1067/
Anzac Parade, Maroubra, NSW, Sydney. She has graciously offered to shoulder my accommodation
and other expenses during my stay in Australia. Having family support in a foreign country will
provide me with a sense of security and stability, allowing me to concentrate fully on my studies.
Furthermore, this vibrant city is known for its yacht-studded harbour, superb beaches, and the iconic
Opera House with its towering sail structure. It is renowned for its world-class educational
institutions, and it offers a wide range of programs and courses that align perfectly with my academic
and career aspirations. The opportunity to study here will provide me with access to cutting-edge
facilities, expert faculty, and an intellectually stimulating environment that will greatly enhance my
educational experience. Moreover, the city provides numerous opportunities for internships. This will
allow me to gain relevant work experience in my field of study and will be immensely beneficial in
shaping my career. The city’s strong economy and thriving job market make it an ideal place for
students like me to develop their professional skills.

WHY A PARTICULAR COURSE / WHY STUDY THESE PROGRAMS AND HOW WILL IT
BENEFIT MY CAREER GOALS
I have carefully chosen to pursue a Graduate Diploma of Management (Learning), as this will
significantly benefit and positively impact my career and professional growth in the government
sector. This will equip me with the necessary skills and knowledge to lead others, demonstrate
innovative thinking and practices, facilitate applied research and implement the latest technologies.
Moreover, it will provide me with the tools to advance my management, decision-making, and
problem-solving skills valuable across a range of situations. Successful completion of this
qualification will provide career opportunities for me in a senior management role in which the
incumbent has sole responsibility for the outputs of a staff team or organization.

A full-time course for the Graduate Diploma of Management (Learning), has a 104 week-duration
including breaks and holidays. The course costs $18,800.00 in total. It is made up of 3 core and 5
elective units as follows: Lead strategic transformation, Contribute to the development of learning
and development strategies, Implement improved learning practice, Lead and manage organizational
change, Apply critical thinking for complex problem solving, Develop and cultivate collaborative
partnerships and relationships, Lead financial strategy development, and Lead strategic planning
processes for an organization.

The core and elective units of the Graduate Diploma of Management and Learning shall be able to
allow me to function on the Research and Planning Unit effectively for I can give my share of
intellect as the plans are being formulated. Also, these are essential for the business expansion and
reopening that I am looking forward to upon going back to the Philippines.

WHY A PARTICULAR COLLEGE / STUDYING AT SALFORD COLLEGE, SYDNEY
CAMPUS
I have chosen Salford College, Sydney Campus as my study location because I believe that it
educates a diverse student body to become responsible global citizens and future leaders through a
challenging learning environment. Based on my research, Salford College aims to be a leader in
teaching excellence. I have known that Salford College has a lot to offer to its growing number of
students on its own campus in Paramatta, Sydney. The campus is located in one of the fastest-growing
city centers in Australia and offers tremendous opportunities to international students and options for
their future growth. Parramatta is one of the biggest town centers in Australia. It is located 23 km

Sydney Campus is located on Macquarie Street in the historical center of Parramatta, 5 minutes

CAREER PLANS AFTER THE PROGRAM AND INDUSTRY CONDITIONS

Working as a 911 Emergency Telecommunicator and an Assistant Manager for the past years has
provided me with valuable professional experience, but I recognize the importance of enhancing my
qualifications and gaining international exposure to advance my career. Upon completion of my
international studies, I intend to apply for a managerial position within my current organization,
in the Research and Planning Unit of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management
Office in La Union. This demonstrates my commitment to utilizing the skills and knowledge gained
from my Australian education to contribute to the growth and success of the government I worked for.
The average annual income of a manager in the Philippines is PHP540,000.00 but it could increase up
to PHP 780,000.00 depending on the qualifications and years of experience.

In addition, I have plans to expand, enhance and assist in managing the business of my partner
Jeffrey Aude T. Casuga, “Aude’s Food Hub”, thereby diversifying our revenue streams through the
establishment of additional kiosks in various areas. Our vision as a partner is also to get married as
soon as our twins turn 3 years old because they will serve as our flower girls. After which, we will
develop our business into “Tres Marias Food and Techno Hub” from the former “Aude’s Food Hub”.
Likewise, I plan to establish an exclusive stall for my mother and reopen her “Zorba Cafe
Lounge”, our family business which she decided to close after my father’s demise, and a
computer shop because the location of it is adjacent to a school. Having acquired a wealth of
knowledge and skills during my time in Australia, I am now equipped with the expertise necessary to
oversee our own enterprise effectively. I am wholeheartedly committed to realizing these ambitions
and firmly believe that, with unwavering determination and diligent effort, they are entirely within our
grasp.

HOME TIES / REASONS TO RETURN IN HOME COUNTRY
While pursuing my international studies will be an enriching experience, I firmly believe that my
strong home ties, family responsibilities, and the abundance of opportunities in the Philippines make
it the ideal place for me to build a successful career and future. First and foremost, my strong family
ties serve as a powerful motivation for my return. Both my parents especially my mother and my
partner's parents are nearing old age, and it is essential for us to be physically present to provide them
with the care, support, and companionship they deserve in their twilight years. I am a daughter to my
loving mom Winnie H. Turco and dad, Bernardo H. Turco and a sister to my only brother Keen
Claude Evans H. Turco. Being raised by a family of Jehovah’s Witnesses as the pillar of our faith, we
felt the presence, protection and deep love coming from my parents. The values of self-discipline,
independence, honesty and resilience are instilled and observed in our daily lives. In my early years,
we lived at Banks Poro, City of San Fernando, La Union, a peaceful place near the beach. We live a
humble life governed by respect, loyalty, discipline and love. Also, I have a huge extended family and
they live nearby. Our family loves to hang out most of the time. We go for outdoor games, chitchats,
strolling and basking along the coastline. A wonderful childhood is etched in my core memory indeed.

Moreover, our family owns properties including a 3,102 square meters lot situated along the Coastline
of Banks Poro, San Fernando City, La Union and another 23,706 square meters lot in the same
location, which makes my mother a direct heiress. Likewise, the house and lot that we currently live
in at Dili, Bauang, La Union is under my mother’s name.

In the year 2004, in my senior year, I came to know a person by the name of Jeffrey Aude T. Casuga.
We both love music, and we are similar in a lot of things. We hung out a lot until our feelings grew
into something special so later by that time, we became partners on February 24, 2007. In December
2013, as I was about to graduate from college in three months’ time, we found out that I was
conceiving our first child who was born on September 29, 2014. On this same day, we decided to live
together with my partner in our family house at Banks, Poro, City of San Fernando, La Union.
Furthermore, my partner and I plan to formalize our relationship through marriage by the time
our twins turn 3 years old because they will be our flower girls, including our firstborn. We envision
building our dream home, where we can create a nurturing environment for our growing family. The
presence of our beloved children also influenced my decision to return. I am also resolute in my desire
to ensure that my children do not endure their childhood years without my presence.

On October 11, 2021, life took away my father from us and left us a void that no one could ever
replace. By then, our relationships grew stronger as we long for the loss of our father. We kept
ourselves as close as we could be. My extended family, aunts, uncles and cousins always have
been our support system. When I get back from Australia, I will be able to apply for the
Managerial Position in the same workplace under the Research and Planning Unit of the Provincial
Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, La Union. Likewise, I look forward to expanding
and assisting my partner Jeffrey Aude T. Casuga in his business, which sells frozen foods like
meat, sausages, and beef. He supplies some of the most prominent shops in our place. This also
includes his “Takoyaki” stand situated at Carlatan, San Fernando City, La Union and owns a
motorcycle for his delivery transportation. Moreover, I will also re-open the family business called
“Zorba Cafe Lounge” that we once had, which my mom temporarily closed due to my father’s
demise. I will be able to apply the skills that I have learned in studying in Australia. I will be able to
strategically manage the financial, and resource allocation which will be put into a balance to sustain
our investments.

As a registered member of the Government Service Insurance System (#2005596869), and PAG-
IBIG Fund (#121197517523), I consistently make monthly contributions towards my future pension
and healthcare benefits. As a loyal member of these government insurance policies, this will
guarantee me the right to claim maternity, sickness, disability, funeral, and death benefits, and most
especially retirement benefits. By maintaining my membership in these organizations, I am securing
my financial stability and healthcare for the future. It is important to note that these benefits are only
accessible while living in the Philippines. Therefore, I am required to be in the Philippines to receive
the benefits given by these government insurance policies.
PROOF OF FINANCIAL CAPACITY AND LIVING ARRANGEMENTS IN AUSTRALIA
Studying in Australia requires a significant amount of funds, and I have taken strategic steps to ensure
that I am financially prepared for this endeavour. Over the years, I have diligently saved a substantial
amount of money specifically to support my studies abroad. I earn an annual salary of PHP318,922.00
(approximately $8743.42) from my job and I receive benefits such as health insurance, social security,
and retirement fund.

In addition to my personal savings, I am fortunate to have a passive income from our family’s
agricultural businesses with parcels of land measuring 3,102 square meters lot situated along the
Coastline of Banks Poro, San Fernando City, La Union and another 23,706 square meters lot situated
at Wallace Air Base, Poro, San Fernando City La Union, Philippines. This source of income will
further contribute to the financial resources necessary to fund my education in Australia. It provides a
steady stream of revenue that can be allocated towards tuition fees, accommodation, and day-to-day
expenses, ensuring a sustainable financial situation throughout my studies.

Furthermore, I have been fortunate enough to receive a generous offer from my 71-year-old aunt,
Nely Assoutis. She is now an Australian citizen residing at 1067/ Anzac Parade, Maroubra, NSW,
Sydney. She formerly worked as a government employee in the Philippines and moved to Australia in
1990. She is married to an Australian citizen and now claims an annual pension of $19,248AUD.
She has expressed her commitment to providing me with all the necessary assistance during my time
as a student in Australia.
I have attached the necessary documents to support my financial background, including tax
declarations, court clearances, government insurance and benefits, and a signed letter of support.
These documents provide a comprehensive overview of my financial situation and the support
available to me.

IMMIGRATION HISTORY
I would like to emphasize that this is my first time traveling abroad, and this marks my initial
application for a student visa. Importantly, I have no records of visa refusals. As a result of my
dedication to education and my desire to broaden my horizons, I have made the decision to pursue
higher studies in Australia. This represents a significant milestone in my life, as it will be my first
time venturing beyond the borders of my home country.

STUDENT’S UNDERSTANDING OF THE VISA CONDITIONS (SUBCLASS 500)

I am completely aware of the numerous conditions for the duration of my visit to Australia. My visa
will be issued as a student under Visa Subclass 500. I have thoroughly read and understood the
conditions stated herein http://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/Trav/Stud/More/Visa-conditions/visa-
conditions-students for those granted the student visa.

CONCLUSION / ENDING NOTE

Upon the completion of my studies, I fully intend to return to my home country, the Philippines, to
utilize the knowledge and skills I acquired in Australia. I am eager to contribute to the development of
the management learning sector in the Philippines, which will benefit the local economy and promote
sustainable practices in the industry. Likewise, I have strong ties to my family, friends, and
community in the Philippines, and I have no intention of overstaying my visa or engaging in any
unauthorized activities. I affirm the accuracy of the provided information and have attached the
necessary documents as proof. I am fully aware that any false or misleading statements may lead to
the rejection of my application. I understand and will strictly adhere to the rules and regulations as a
student visa holder in Australia. I kindly request favourable consideration of my application and the
granting of a student visa. I look forward to a positive response regarding my visa application.
