PREAMBLE

Good day, Sir/Madam! We are Miel Xiane Kheizer I. Batara & Jomar S. Trinidad.

You can call us Miel and Jomar. We are Grade 11 Students of Mariano Marcos State

University-Laboratory High School-Batac Campus. We would like to thank you for giving us

your precious time to be interviewed-to become part of this narrative study.

As requisites of the course Practical Research 1-Qualitative Research, we are inviting

you to join us in our task for a short activity that will capture your own view of the same

human experience. Your participation in this study will help us collect qualitative data for

our qualitative research study.

Before we start, I would like to ask for your consent if you are willing to take part in

this study.

We are going to have a conversation for about sixty (60) minutes. The recording is

meant to help us focus on listening to you and developing a good conversation without the

distraction of note taking. Please be assured that everything you say in this interview is

confidential. If there is any question that you do not want to answer you can say "No". We

will not be upset, and nobody will not know whether you say "Yes" or "No" to any question.

If you are tired, you can also stop at any time. Having said all of this, I do hope that you are

relaxed-ready for a lively conversation with me. Do you have any question? Can we start?

Objective 1.
Investigate the frequency and severity of menstrual
symptoms experienced by junior secondary school
learners during their menstrual cycle.

Interview Question:
- Can you describe your experiences with
menstruation?

Probing Questions:
- How often do you menstruate?
- What symptoms do you experience? How severe are
these symptoms?
Objective 2.
Explore the impact of menstrual bleeding on academic
performance of junior secondary learners, including
attendance, concentration and overall academic
achievement.

Interview Question:
- Can you describe how menstruation affects your
academic performance?
Probing Question:
- How does menstrual bleeding impact your
attendance?
- How does it affect your concentration in class?
- Have you noticed any changes in your academic
achievement during your menstrual cycle?

Objective 3.
Describe the coping strategies utilized by junior
secondary learners during their menstrual cycle to
manage academic challenges.

Interview Question:
- What strategies do you use to manage academic
challenges during your menstrual cycle?

Probing Questions:
- How do you cope with menstrual symptoms in the
classroom?
- Are there any specific strategies you use to manage
academic work during menstruation?
Objective 4.
Examine the attitudes and perceptions of junior
secondary school learners towards menstruation and its
effects on their academic performance.

Interview Question:
- What are your attitudes and perceptions towards
menstruation and academic performance?

Probing Questions:
- Do you feel that menstruation affects your academic
performance?
- How do your peers and teachers view menstruation?

Objective 5.
Identify any factors that may exacerbate the impact of
menstrual bleeding on academic performance among
junior secondary school learners, such as
socioeconomic status or access to menstrual hygiene
products.

Interview Question:
- Are there any factors that make it harder to manage
menstrual bleeding in the classroom?

Probing Questions:
- Do you have any access to menstrual hygiene
products in the classroom?
- How does your family’s socio-economic status affect
your ability to manage menstrual bleeding at school?
CLOSING

We really appreciate sharing your experiences and views. We are going to do some

analysis of all data we have collected today. Would you mind if we contact you in the future

in case we need further clarifications? It would just be a phone conversation at a time of your

convenience. Again, you are free to share what you like to share and can say “no” at any

point of the conversation.
