Community is a group of people living in the same place or having particular characteristics
in common- practicing common ownership; particular area; common interest; social values
and responsibilities; attitudes and interests.
The quality of both the school and the community has a vital role in the development of a
child. These two places has the strongest social impact to the learners as they grow. Whatever
not found in the school or vice versa should be found in the other in order to fill the nurturing
roles for the development of the children. Thus, the holistic development of an individual
depends on the school and the community where he grew.
I am Rina a Grade VI pupil living in the City. I am a transferee in our school since
mother decided to return back to the city where she works.
One day, upon going home from the school I feel worried for I knew no one and
besides I don’t understand their dialect and I see lot of drunkards along the sidewalks. I
walk almost a kilometer before I reach our house. As I enter the gate, I still see the
children sniffing the so called “rugby”. I feel unsafe but I can do nothing but to adapt to
the new home where we now belong. At night time, I hear loud voices shouting outside
until later I am used to it.
Months later, as I roam around our school, I saw some children vandalizing and
doing unnecessary things. I felt like quitting and going back to our old home away from
the city. But I can’t go back home since my father has already his new family in our old
community.
As days pass by, I just ignore those scenes and things that I see in my new school
and community even though they give me impacts of fear and unsafety.
Few days later, I gain friends and found belongingness in my new school and
community.
_______1. The school and the community have a great impact in your life.
_______2. My teacher scolded me, but I took it positively and focused more on my studies.
_______3. Only the school has the greater effect to a child development.
_______6. The school and the community work together to protect every child.
_______9. The community and the school must have strong partnership.
_______10. This time of pandemic our school and our community join hands to ensure our
safety.

products. paper can easily be recycled and reused so make sure to place them in your
recycling bin.
• Organic waste

manure and rotten meat are classified as organic waste. over time, organic waste is
turned into manure by microorganisms.
3. Recyclable
Recyclable rubbish includes all waste items that can be converted into
products that can be used again. solid items such as paper, metals, furniture and
organic waste can all be recycled.
4. Hazardous waste

Types of Wastes
Compostable
Compostable wastes means that a product is capable of disintegrating into
natural elements in a compost environment, leaving no toxicity in the soil. This
typically must occur in about 90 days. Waste materials that decomposed more than
90days are called Biodegradable.
Non-recyclable
These are wastes that neither be processed nor treated for reuse in some form.
Examples are foil, cardboard and soda bottles.
Recyclable
These are waste materials retrieved from the waste stream and free from
contamination that can still be converted into suitable and beneficial use or for other purposes,
including, but not limited to, newspaper, ferrous scrap metal, non-ferrous scrap metal, used oil,
corrugated cardboard, aluminum, glass, office paper, tin cans and other materials as may be
determined by the Commission.
Special Wastes
Special wastes refer to household hazardous wastes such as paints, thinners, household
batteries, lead-acid batteries, spray canisters and the like. These include wastes from residential
and commercial sources.
Non-Biodegradable
Non-Biodegradable materials can be defined as substances which cannot be broken
down by natural organisms. Some are a source of pollution if not managed properly and well.
