Situation/Question:

Last week, the class had a 10-item quiz. Think of one (1) item you got
wrong. Based on the Definition and Purpose of Legal Research, explain
why you think not knowing the answer to that item may adversely affect
your output or work as a law student or paralegal.

Answer:

Legal research is defined as "the finding and assembling of authorities that

bear on a question of law; the field of study concerned with the effective
marshaling of authorities that bear on a question of law (Santos-Ong, 2013). It
basically implies that legal research is the method you employ to recognize
and locate the laws—including statutes, rules, and court rulings—that are
relevant to the particulars of your case. Legal research often aims to find
evidence to support a certain legal question or decision. In legal research, one
must be attentive to details, have analytical skills, and critical thinking, which
are just some of the important traits a legal researcher must have.

One of the items that I got wrong during the 10-item quiz was the question
with regards to the name and rank of the Chief of the Philippine National Police,
PGEN BENJAMIN ACORDA JR. As the top law enforcer in the Philippines, it is
very important to know his rank and name, and most especially his duties and
responsibilities. Not knowing the answer to that particular query may have a
negative impact that would affect my output or work as a law student since I
failed to know the high-ranking appointed officials who play a big role in today's
legal system and law enforcement. Two of the vital skills needed in legal
research are being detail-oriented and being updated on social issues that
would greatly affect society's legal system. Without the initiative to research,
read, or watch news, one will be left behind in the current situation of society.
Everything that happens in the country is conditioned by the law; thus, being
aware of the facts and eventualities is an aid to knowing more about the
relations of law and its governance and application to society, so there will be a
grasp with regards to relating law to cases.
