Goal

The overall goal is for John to feel comfortable in the classroom environment (Policy 322) while
achieving his personal goals of speaking at an appropriate classroom level and speed.

With the help of the MKO, they can have a tool for the entire class they can use to not single John out,
that will provide a visual for the class of noise volume. (This can provide John with a visual instead of
needing to use more advanced communicative skills.) As he has deficits in nonverbal communicative
behaviors related to social interaction, eye contact, body language and deficits in the use of gestures.
(The MKO will focus on visuals to help improve John’s struggles.)

2
The MKO will initially explain the online system for noise levels to the students, so they are
understanding how it works.

The MKO will model this for John throughout their lessons with him and the other students. It will be
modelled through using a technology app on the projector that will always be displayed on the board.
This will be modelled through social collaboration in discussion-based learning during instruction.
Students will model this along with the teacher for John and it will continue to be reinforced while it
is John’s turn to speak.

Through positive reinforcement, at the end of the week, the class will win a prize for appropriately
contributing and staying within the noise limits in the classroom. John will receive a special prize of
stickers for achieving his goals of appropriate volume level while speaking throughout the week.

Using weekly check-ins, it provides the teacher with a measurable and attainable time frame to help
the student adjust and improve accordingly.

The progress reports (halfway through the term) will let the classroom teacher know if the plan needs
to be adjusted or changed.

Outcome

level without needing to be reminded by speaking at an appropriate level in the classroom.
the classroom teacher.
Through interviews and one-on-one interactions
with John before and after class, the teacher can
work on adding new sounds and vocabulary for
John to work on with them during these times of
the day.

The MKO will focus on visuals to help improve

John’s struggles.

2. By the end of the semester, John will At each entry into the class, the teacher will use
continue to use visuals to help him speak new sounds as a way to implement speed and
at a lower volume in the classroom. volume retention to the students’ speech.
As part of his attendance, and class culture, he
has to sound out a sound to the teacher every
class.

Overtime, the teacher can add a new sound to

the entry sounds to help expand the students
sound vocabulary.

3
The teacher will have a conversation bi-weekly
with the student where they will count up to 2 to
3 syllables per second during the conversation to
accurately measure his level of speech.

This plan implements Policy 322 5.1 in respect,

and engagement with a positive, collaborative
classroom environment.
